Hopefully the rest of the summer is massively better than what we’ve had so far! Abysmal salmon numbers on just about every river. Luckily the trout fishing should be decent regardless, and from what I’ve read the coho runs should still be pretty okay. It’s been the Kings and the reds that have been just about non existent up to this point.

I just got a report that the water levels and salmon numbers are good where we're headed (tributary of Bristol Bay). We're targeting the Coho run.

I finally found time to wet a line last weekend. I backpacked in to Hazel Creek in the GSMNP in Western NC which is a 10 mile hike from Fontana Dam. I took the old man with me so the hike and recovery cut into fishing time leaving only a couple hours on the water Saturday. We managed to catch a few small bows and browns despite the water being fast and high from rain the day before. We also saw a bear on the hike in on Friday as well as the hike out on Sunday which was cool.

My FIL sends his old issues to me. In the Summer 2018 one there was a great write up about the Penobscot River Project. Looks like it opened up many many miles of water.

I am. I’ve been there twice - both were bachelor parties. Pretty cool place. They have tours or you can just chill and drink, play cornhole or giant jenga, and sometimes I think they’ll have live music.
