This is a great idea. I'll try this out next time it is a very hot day, which should actually be next week.

    My shit is all stock.
High side discharge hose is the most common failure point I've seen. 88703-04020 for the 4.0. 88703-04010 for the 2.7.

Evacuate the system. Leak check (vacuum hold). Recharge with dye making sure you're adding the correct amount of refrigerant and pag oil (delphi RL-897) 00289-AC897. Go from there.

And don't 'fix' it with AC Pro. It won't kill your AC right away, but in a year, or 2... Add straight R134A, nothing else.

I think I’ve found my problem. That number should be somewhere between 1.25 and 1.375 oz.

    Reserected from the dead.

Well...If you do it right and vacuum the system down, you will need to add a few ounces of oil as well.

I think that has been done; my mechanic added dye in April. My dad thinks this unusual heat is causing my A/C to not work as well...

Im with your dad on this one, I never had a problem with my AC, but this past week when the humidity was high along with high temperature, I had to put it on high, I never did that before. I could always use the 1st or 2nd fan speed.

Why do you say that? Find the leak then since there’s dye

    I'll do that tomorrow...

Also, is a 4.0L condenser any bigger than a 2.7L?

If you had an airflow problem at idle, you'd think the coolant temp would go up at idle and possibly overheat right?

You may see some results from an auxiliary pusher fan, but if you had a fan clutch issue or airflow issue the engine temp would go up noticeably

If you do it right, you won't need to add any oil. If you add oil and don't know if any has been lost, the system will have too much oil. Our trucks hold 22 oz of freon. Every extra ounce of oil you add that's not needed, takes away from the capacity of freon that the system can use. Auto supplies used to sell precharged cans of freon AND oil. A number of times I've had to dismantle the system, drain the compressor, flush the rest of the system, and add the proper amount of oil back. Putting oil back in a compressor is a giant pita. And add some to the evap, condenser, and accumulator or drier. :annoyed:

Done arguing about this, what do I know?

Not necessarily. I along with a few others have a large supercharger intercooler in front of the condenser and under extremely hot circumstances it could create a situation where it is actually hurting AC performance because of the heat it is dissipating and the fact that the air has to pass through the hot intercooler first.

Out of curiosity how much oil have you put into our systems when you've done a regular service before?

How would I know that? Maybe he got tired of looking and gave up.

Did you have dye in the system?

Some leaks are very small and hard to locate. With dye it will show up.
