Any easy seat swaps for a '98 ext cab w/bucket seats?

So I'm sure many of you know that the bucket seats that came in a '98 ext cab are awfully uncomfortable. Not to mention the headrests are ripping off and the padding is giving out in certain spots (especially on the driver's side)

I don't have power seats fwiw.

So I was wondering if the seats had changed with the 2000-04 models and if they're easily swapped into a '98.

And if not, are there any other seats that easily swap into my truck?

 

The only seats that will swap into your 1998 XtraCab 'as is' are other 1995.5 - 2004 Tacoma seats.

Yes - the later (1999 - 2004) buckets will swap right in.

I'll have to check, but is there any noticeable difference between my seats and the 2004? I'd have to assume they upgraded them somewhat... right?

 

No - not much real difference except in the upholstery.

Certain 2001 - 2004 packages included 'sport' bucket seats with an electrical adjustable lumbar support, but I don't recommend them as being worth any additional hassle.

Maybe just some new headrests from the salvage yard and some wet okoles is the way to go.

 

My drivers seat won't recline anymore I can only move the seat forward and backwards...

Like Corbeau, Recaro offers mounting brackets for your Taco. Wedge Engineering can probably fab up mounting brackets for most any seat as well.

 

Subaru 2.5 RS impreza seats will fit, 3 of the 4 tabs are in the right place. You will need a drill and the 4th tab has to have and extension welded.

Pretty comfy.

Wrx seats are the same, they just sit a tad higher (2-3 inches.)

Best road trip seats I've ever experienced are Saab. I recently swapped out my Tacoma bucket seats for Saab 9,3 convertible seats. They lean forward so I can still access the cab. The driver's side is 6-way power and the passenger is manual.

This was much cheaper than Recaro seats and custom brackets!
