I have read this as well. Should be ok with the small draw the light in these switches have.

I have four additional switches, one oem, and three mic tuning and all have their illumination wires tapped into the stock foglight switch's illumination wires. No need to add a fuse and they light up only when the lights are switched on, OEM style.

@outxider would you mind elaborating on the way you tapped into the fog light switch illumination wires?? Im a rookie. Just ordered the Cali Raised bumper light and would like to avoid the add-a-fuse if it's easy. I have the auto fog light oem switch right next to my target slot for the light bar switch. is there a wire coming off the fog light that 's easily found??

FOG_LED_SCHEMATIC.jpg This diagram is for 2nd gen oem foglight and i noticed you have a 3rd gen. Assuming they are the same, it would be pins 1 and 2 from the bottom of the switch for illumination. Double check with a multimeter. All of my aftermarket switches(illumination) are tapped off the oem fog light switch.

Has anyone run into the issue that the oem style switch when tapped into the tail fuse the switch stays illuminated when lights are on but the bar is not on? My switch stays lit at all times when the tail lights are on. I was under the impression that the whole switch didn’t stay lit even when the light bar is off. (I have the blue wire taped off)

Yeah, isnt that just the backlit mode. Its supposed to be normal like all the switches in your truck.

I thought just the lettering "LED Light Bar" was supposed to be lit at all times when the headlights are on and the picture of the light bar lit up when the light bar is on.

When I turn on my headlights the whole switch lights up in both the on and off positions, not just the "LED Light Bar" portion when off and the whole switch when on. I believe I might have a bad switch.

So when you switch headlights on both top and bottom litup at all times? Even when lightbar off? Only bottom should be lit when headlights on. Im wondering if you wired it wrong. Im familiar with mictuning switches that have 4 wires coming from switches. One of which is for the backlit function

I followed most of the videos and online forums. My wiring harness has a blue, white, and black and I wired the switch black on black, green on white, and both reds to the add a fuse. Blue wire not used as it keeps switch on while truck is not on so I just taped it off.

    white to green/yellow.
    blue to red/yellow(next to green/yellow).
    black to black.
red/yellow to add a circuit or stock illumination off an oem switch or circuit.

All of my mic tuning switches are wired this way and only the bottom writing is lit up with headlight circuit. Once I flip the switch, the top icon of said switch is illuminated.

Sounds like you definitely wired it wrong. You need 2 power wires- 1 is tied to your dash lights (dimable circuit) and the other power is the one that feeds the switch and basically loops back around to the relay telling lights to come on. You just have to think of it that these 2 functions are totally independent of each other. Are you using a harness that already has a relay and all connectors?

Yes I have a relay wired into it but the blue wire that comes from the relay puts the power to the switch at all times so I was trying to avoid that.

Ok I understand that now but is there a state law that you’re trying to comply with so it can’t be turned on whenever you want it on? Irregardless you need a separate power source for backlighting when you headlights/dashlights are on.

Not %100 sure about you colors but I only wired one to the addafuse. Tail i believe and the rest to lightbar. The light is always hot but the button is not on at all times

I just was trying to avoid the backlit switch at all times because you cannot tell when the light is on because the switch shows "on" when the lightbar is on and off whenever the headlights are on.

I'm seeing the same problem as @Tacomaandrew1021 . I tried to swap my 12V lead to the other red with yellow stripe wire (adjacent to the black ground wire) and the light bar will not illuminate. That just back lights the switch label. So, I have the light bar switching fine, but the switch icon remains lit up when the switch is off. And I just have a one conductor wire running to my relay in the engine bay, couldn't be any simpler. Could there be a mistake on the LED circuits internal to the switch? This is how I at least have the switch properly working with the light bar:

I reached out to @CaliRaisedLed and got a pretty quick response. The green wire actually goes to your 12V supply and the red wire nearest the green wire goes to the relay. So, starting with the photo in my previous post, switch the green and red. Works like a charm!
