Have you adjusted mileage for larger tires? You might be going quite a bit farther than your odometer suggests.

Same problem. I'm completely stock besides 265/75/r16 Duratracs and I got 12.5mpg on my last tank. I'm almost at 90k so I'm going to do a big tune up soon. Spark plugs, diffs and transfer case, air filter, clean MAF and throttle body, and whatever else I can think of. 12.5 is ridiculous for a stock truck.

Similar results here. 2010 with 40k, cleaned MAF, TB, new copper plugs and I only average 13mpg around town, a little less with my Snugtop. Only outside mod is 265/75r16 K02 tires

I consistently get just above 17.5 MPG with 33's and a 4 inch lift. I also have a combined weight of about 110lbs tire and wheel combo. I think your not calculating the MPG's correctly as I can see how there could be that much difference. Changing the plugs will not change the MPG much, you are only talking fractions. My lift also increased the weight of the vehicle not counting the tires and wheels at least 200lbs.

I took a trip to the camp for the 4th, small state highways, ran about 55-65MPH most of the time except for LA small town speed trap, LOL! Have to fill up. Running a constant 55-65MPH should just about max out best MPG. I'll fuel up later and report.

2006 Prerunner DC (still donno why people say Double Cab, my paperwork says Quad Cab, lol) short bed, 2009 Japanese manu (J VIN) 1GR-FE engine, 3.73 gears, adding 10%/11% to odometer for tires... on this trip, running steady 55-65MPH, approx. 13.5 MPG

So I’m in the same boat as y’all. I get 12-14mpg on average. Driving like a grandma or driving with my lead foot makes very little difference. I have stock wheels and tires, stock gearing. I do have a SC, which I would think would improve my mpg when I drive like a grandma, but it doesn’t. Neither does it severely hurt my mpgs when I mash the skinny peddle everywhere.

From all the mpg threads I’ve read, I’ve come to this conclusion: people that boast 17mpg and up are either lying, have a 4 banger vs our V6, or never get their truck over 2000rpm, which means they never drive over 60ish mph at the most.

I plan to test this theory next fill up. I have a V6 standard. For a full tank I will never get my truck over 60mph, or 2000rpm max. I’ll report back on my findings.

Prob is, getting these buckets into overdrive at 60 (on speedomeyer), with low RPM's. To get it into over drive with 35's according to GPS speedometer, I have to hit 83MPH! Then when I slack off its a battle against ecu to keep rolling in OD while dropping MPH :)

I manually shift into OD as I get ont freeways because if I don’t it’ll hang at a high rpm for about a mile until it shifts. I’ve tried it all and my mpg’s SUCK! City and hwy! I need to start filling up with that fairy fuel, where can I find dat!?

So no OD for me cause I’m a standard transmission. I’ll be pushing into the higher gears ASAP on this next tank.

So if you manually shift, OD sticks?

OD is 5th gear in auto trans. You actually have the advantage.

No it will shift into OD when I manually shift. It hangs in forth and will get to around 3 to 4k rpms for a while before shifting into OD for at least a mile (normal acceleration). Transmission is 2 years old.

Make that 3. If I leave early enough for my commute, the avergae speed is usually about 55 mph with minimal braking, so I can just feather the throttle at a coast and keep the MPG bar all the way up. In stop and go traffic I can plummit down to 20.

I'm also really trying to utilize engine braking and coasting into a brake so that I can gently accelerate.

A couple weeks ago we drove out to our cabin in Mt, put about 3500 miles on in 6 days. 2005 AC V6, stock rims/tires 2 1/2" lift. The truck was loaded down pretty good. Worst tank was 18.5 (all freeway @75) best was driving through Mn ( @60) 23.5. Over all I averaged 20.5

That’ll probably hurt your mpg more than you think. I have a scangauge and one of the things I monitor is engine load (its a range of 1%-100%). I find that running slightly higher rpm (around 2300k) keeps the engine in its optimal place with load around 35%. If you’re in too high a gear and try and accelerate, even slowly, load jumps up around 70%. Being able to monitor this, I’ve changed my driving habits accordingly and on average I get 13 mpg. This doesn’t sound like a lot but I’m stock gearing with 34” mud terrains and have roughly 1,100 lbs over stock. And a 13 year old truck with 180k miles on it.
