Someone went through a bunch of cars on the block last night. Don't think they took anything from me but they dropped an OBD2 scanner in front of my neighbor's house.

    Lock doors...

Scumbags won't break your windows, they'll just move onto the neighbors unlocked vehicle. *unless you have valuables in plain sight, then they might try to break in.

do engine swap inspectors actually verify the year of the transplanted engine is newer than the recipient vehicle?

Yes, they confirm the software in the swapped ecu is for the year of the vehicle or newer and that the engine has all the required emissions components are in place and functioning.

When I did mine. I went to broomfield to have it checked and told the inspector about the motor swap. He didn’t care much unless it didn’t pass smog. He told me if it doesn’t pass smog just get it fixed. Other then that I’m good to go. I would still just get the same year or newer to play it safe. Why take short cuts if your doing the work anyways.

Nope, they don't give a shit about what's under the hood.
Just needs to pass emissions and no they don't check for emissions related components.

the catch is that it is OBD1 and my truck is OBD2 so I would probably need a newer donor for all the extra shit anyways :(

I'm somewhat patiently awaiting a classic beetle with irs that isn't too rusted or beat up for a forest service road rally whip.

Yes, when you go to the Certification Station they really only check the electronics and related emissions components. Once you get your engine swap certification sheet you go to a regular emission stations for a test and they are about as smart as a box of rocks. They'll look at the sheet and see what they are supposed to enter your vehicle as, ignore that and enter it as the older vehicle and not look for anything. I used the Certification station off of Colorado and Countyline.

You likely got lucky because there was no manager working the lanes. Also that engine you have technically belongs in that truck so not many lane goobs would catch it. If they catch you you'll have to take it to get certified.

You are getting lucky, no doubt in part that you live out of the 7 metro county area so your emissions guys are not as diligent at they could be. I was able to get through 2 tests on my old 3.4 swapped 4runner before I was caught. One on the pickup. I'll likely get this next one certified right away so I can be in before the Cali emissions crap Hickenasshole is pushing through.
