    Nope, it's the only way to get the rack and pinion out of a turd.:anonymous:

    I did not see any. If you don't want to buy bear canisters you can rent them at the ranger station in town. Very active time of the year for bears and the ones you really gotta watch out for with your food are the coons and squirrels lol those little buggers are good at opening things or just chewing right through backpacks

    I've used bear canisters on backpacking trips, but I just don't think that I'll be using one for this trip, FYI. I'll have way too much food in a cooler and hopefully there's enough of us around to keep the bears at bay and food locked in our the trucks. If anything, I can always bag it from a tree.

    Edit: I'm just giving my opinion in case anyone was considering what to do about bear canisters. I thought about it, but then quickly realized that I'll have too much food to bring one.

    The more of us the better I think lol I'm bringing my .40 but usually a few of us making some noise will scare them off. Usually better to hide the food somewhere besides your car, they have pictures in the ranger stations of cars that got ripped open like a can by bears trying to get the food. Id rather loose my food than file a insurance claim on my truck lol

    That's awesome! If my daughter's birthday party wasn't this weekend, I'd drive up with you.
    I agree 100% and WILL ALWAYS take the mountains over the beach. My wife and daughter OTOH :rolleyes:

    @Sdtrueblue
    I was going to say that same thing. I have seen many cars/trucks ripped apart by bears trying to get at food. :eek:
    I wouldn’t recommend leaving any food in your truck.

    Thanks Dirk. I know you're absolutly right. I'll plan to hang it all then and be safe. If there are no bear lockers where we'll be, I'll know I'll have too much to get it into a canister.
    Besides, I'm sleeping in my truck so if I did hear a bear get close, I'll yell for @TacoSauceHB to wake up and come over with his .40! :muscleflexing: :D

    From Berkeley it used to take me about 6 hours, so that sounds right.

    I will be in Mammoth lakes starting tomorrow till the 16th, in the 17 PRO. Takes me 5 hours from LA.

    Normally takes me 3.5 hours to get to Lone Pine, because I have been leaving right after work on a Friday it took me 5 hours and 20 minutes to get to Lone Pine last week.... hoping for better timing tonight lol. With little traffic you can get to mammoth in a straight shot with about 6.5-7 hours. Cops are also hot and heavy on the 395 this time of the year so I kick it in cruise control and roll my windows down when I go through the little towns and entering mammoth, they always get me for tinted windows lol
