I get where you're coming from. You bought a new vehicle for a few reasons and those reasons probably include having an untouched vehicle and a little piece of mind that stuff like this wouldn't happen right off the lot. A big reason I buy new is because Im very adamant about doing my own repairs so I don't have to deal with the bullshit the last 'mechanic' left. So an issue like this would completely dissolve that and leave me unsatisfied weeks after inking the papers.

If you go with the latter option, there would be no judgment from me. At the end of the day, you're the only person you need to satisfy. Those F150's are pretty nice. I strongly considered one before the taco but just didn't want the extra weight/mass of a full size.

Actually, I made it in right before the waranty ran over and the dealership covered them for free. I did not buy my used Taco from a Toyota Dealership (Risky situation but actually saved me ~$7K, so it was a calculated risk) but the Toyo Dealership I go to honored that the brakes shouldn't be showing that much wear & tear under any situation. They were pretty warped so they replaced on their dime. My Taco is a Jan 2016 build so who knows.

I've been in two situations similar to this:

    1. Bought my wife an Acura MDX a number of years back. After two weeks of ownership, the fuel tank opened up a hairline at a seam. Dealer replaced the entire car.

    2. My 1996 Ram 2500 with a cummins had an main seal leak 850 miles into ownership. Was expecting them to just fix it - they replaced the truck.

In both cases, the Dealer made the call, not corporate. In both cases the dealer told me essentially the same things but in different words - namely that they would fight the battle with corporate and that they felt there was a severity threshold that a new customer should have to deal with.

Make what you will of that. I'm not advocating anything, just letting you know how I've been treated in a similar pair of circumstances.

Agree with Jycr. I don’t see any harm in requesting an extended warranty. If you think about it the warranty will not cost them anything unless you use it and if they feel strongly enough that they sell a great product then they should have the confidence that you’ll never need to use it. This helps buy you piece of mind without an actual cost- win win compromise. Unfortunately anything mechanical is subject to what’s called sudden infant mortality- not the people kind.

Same thing happened to my 2017, except that they had never dealt with it before and the disassembled the entire front end to access the timing chain cover. The tech learned that taking the engine out was the easier way, so at least you’re dealing with folks who sound like they have done it before.

They’ll fix it and you’ll be fine.

Thank you very much for this post. You can see my point of view.

I am a die hard ford guy. I did my research on trucks, and god damnit, these tacos kept popping up. Extremely reliable. And probably the most capable off road vehicle ever made. (Jeep could obviously argue this.). I took a leap of faith on Toyota, and I feel like it backfired in my face.

Taking the shaft is not an option, let them fix it an get them to provide an extended warranty.

Sure, i would be upset about it being a brand new truck.

I bought a new Mitsubishi Eclipse back in 1990 and 2 months later a rear main seal starting leaking like a dripping faucet.

Brought it in and since it was a new model at the time,it took 4 months to get the part.Service manager said it was on a slow boat from China.

Got it fixed and drove the car another 150K before selling it without so much as another issue with it.

Things like this happen to mass produced items all the time. They will fix it and it will be fine.

This is the single dumbest advice i've ever heard. "Compound your misfortunes by wasting money on a lawyer!"
