You can pay the park to shuttle you and your gear out to the islands at Umbagog. I am planning to pack as light as possible, and paddle out. I am just hoping the weather is better this trip. We had wicked thunderstorms last trip.

Yeah, when I'm kayak camping I definitely pack lighter. If it can't fit in one trip out to wherever we're staying it doesn't go. I used to 'canoe camp' all the time when I was younger, and when I got a kayak I had to pare my gear back considerably, because you can fit a LOT more into a 16 foot canoe than you can into a 13 foot kayak. Now we mostly powerboat camp when we go to an island, and the amount of gear that I bring has grown again

Which island are you camping on? Big, Bear, Blake? Or one of the ones with no name?

Sounds nice. I don't have any plans to buy a powerboat any time soon. Luckily the other people I am camping with are heading up the day before. It should allow me to pack even lighter.

Shrug. Neither did I, really. I'd been looking at them halfheartedly on Craigslist and saying "What the f*ck?" a lot about the prices. Then I just sort of stumbled across this one. Serendipity.

For any of you NE guys with AAA, whats been your experience thus far? Im looking to join because having the Land Rover towed to the Vineyard is expensive, but it looks like a AAA membership gets me a huge discount. What plan did you go with and why? Any help is appreciated

Yep. We usually make a trip up to the beaches on the northern end of the lake for lunch one of the days that we're camping there. It's a lot easier with the powerboat; with the Kayaks it's an all day trip. We've gone past Bosebuck a few times but have never put in at their dock.

They have good food there. Might need to call ahead this time of year though

I've heard that about them. We've always just packed sandwiches and stopped at the beaches, because when we were kayaking it we didn't feel like paddling the extra distance and we haven't gotten out of the habit yet, lol.

Shrug. I've got a pretty good-sized kayak (13 feet and nice & beam-y; it's a Predator from before they were a sit-on) that I can fit most of our 'camping light' gear into. Anything that doesn't fit in my 'yak the GF can put in hers, and that has the bonus of not having to drag more weight behind me

Plus. Think it's $60 a year, I am on my parents' plan. 100 miles of free towing is huge in case shit ever happens.

There are also a LOT of discounts on tickets etc. I use their web portal for Hotels and Rental Cars. I priced it out and you can save $5-10 a night over the cheapest online prices and for a week it can be close to $70 which pays for the membership. I also use it for Six FLags, Universal, Hertz rentals...and I've been towed 2x and my wife 1x in about 5 years so that also is a huge benefit.

However you can "Overuse" the towing benefit and they reserve the right to charge you at some point...read the fine print...But 1 to 2x a year shouldn't be an issue

Agree with that. Sure I could jack up my truck and change my own tire, or I could have someone else do it. Even if I have to wait a while, if the weather is bad I might as well haha
