Looks like my truck! Haven't decided I want bug deflectors yet.

I did 2 things on the 4th. Plasti-dipped the emblem and will do the chrome grille and rear chrome bumper this weekend.

 

Nice! Thatll look great. I had the badge on my grille dipped before i got the faux pro insert. Ive been thinking i may color match the toyota letter here in the near future. Got some red color matched emblems for the doors and tailgates so i think thatll tie everything in together

Did you paint your engine cover?

 

I would have liked the grille and bumper to match the truck color, but it is what it is.

I did paint the engine cover, yep! My first time doing something like that. Took it out, of course. Taped down the middle.

Thinking about the fuse box as well. Maybe the left portion of air filter too.

 

You should do the unifilter mod for your secondary air pump. Cheap insurance since you have a '13 like me.

I've done a little research but not much, should I be looking for a rear end with an elocker, just save up and go arb, or is the trutrac pretty darn good

 

Im partial to ARB, so i think its the best one out there, but it does cost quite a bit. Silent engagement and disengagement though, and doesnt change the streetability of the truck at all. Keep in mind with an arb you will also need a compressor and a few other bits and pieces to get it all working.

I cant speak with personal experience about a trutrac, but ive heard theyre a great option, and definitely much cheaper. @Texoma has one in his truck and @MattCowsmasher is getting one installed in his in a couple weeks. So maybe one of them can give you a little more personal insight.

If you can find an elocker rear end for cheap that might be a great option as well. I noticed you have a first gen though, and i dont know much about the interchangeability of them. Im pretty sure the tacos have used the same axle/diff housings since the 90s so i think it should work. Id do a little more research though if you do come across one of those

I also have the Curt hitch on my 2014. Installed it myself and use to pull a small mobile wash trailer.

 

My thinking was, TruTrac is in operation 100% of the time where as a locker will be 0.01% of the time.

 

Did it require a space filler?

Iv'e got the trutrac on my truck. It's on when ever your on the gas, so pretty damn close to 100%.
only time you really notice it's there while on the road is if you accelerate hard around a sharp turn causing your tires to chirp. Other than that offroad it's been awesome and i'm more than happy with it.

Are there a lot of prerunner friendly trails out there?

 

Get the trutrac it's a great piece of.hardware. I have personally experienced it a little trail near a friend's house from a stop to go up a hill I spun in 2wd an didn't get it up. Switch to 4wd made it no issue. His truck has TT made it up 2wd no.issue. after that I was sold plus it works all the time.

I'm going to be staying in Kyle/Austin/Buda but plan on hitting a few different cities such as DFW and San Antonio. Maybe Houston but not sure on it yet.

If you download the maps.me app and get on the tx overland facebook page, there are a good assortment of .kml and .kmz files that have good routes to check out

Maps.me allows you to follow a route that youve already downloaded while offline (ie if you dont have cell service for some reason, which isnt uncommon in the hill co)
