They look good. My only thought/concern is that if the open end is pointing up, how hard would it be to get say a rock or mud/dirt in it? And if it was to be filled by a hard (er) substance, what would happen to the bump stop under load? Would it split? Would it still function as desired?

It’d be really easy to plug it if that’s what your main concern is. Or OP could make a neat little 3D printed plug and sell it to you for $19.99. You’re supposed to wash your truck from time to time as well.

I can’t imagine a rock getting Michael Jordan’d inside the bumpstop while running really hard, and then also not being able to bounce right back out. Superbumps and Timbrens never have these issues and they’re both designed with a pocket.

Ive never even thought about swapping bump stops until this thread popped up. So I have no clue who makes replacement parts for them. If you can't imagine a cup shaped space facing up getting filled with mud and dirt or passably a rock, you have never wheeled on the east coast. Mud is unavoidable on the trails. In my mind, there is a decent chance that it could happen, and if it did, what effects would it have on the bump stop?

Are you saying the west coast doesn’t have gravel or rocks?

Like every other suspension component on your truck, you’re supposed to visually inspect prior to going offroad. Once again, anything that can easily bounce in should and will bounce out given the time. Heaven forbid there are a few rocks in the bumpstop, and your truck completely bottoms out with rocks inside. You would just end up with more smaller rocks in the bumpstop.

I ran superbumps on my last truck, and yes the pocket will collect dirt. Wash it out, and dry it so the water doesn’t sit in it. Or if all of that sounds too intense, just stuff some crumpled up duct tape in there and call it a day.

Do you have stock in these bump stops or something? I'm literally just asking the op a question. The title of this thread begins with R&D.. he asked what "we" thought.

When my group gets together and wheels, we normally go for a long weekend. 3-4 days. In that time none of use wash our trucks in that tome. Some weekends it rains the whole time or has rained the week before and everything is a sloppy mess. When I say gravel, im not talk about the kind on your driveway. I'm talking about the small stuff thats in.mud. so yes, something getting trapped in there is a possibility. It might be a non issue. IDK, that's why I asked.

Look man I’m sorry if it comes off like i’m attacking you, not my intention at all. I’ve been trying to provide answers to your question, which I’m certain I did.

Everyone on here has their own 2 cents, and here’s mine. The best way to test these things is to install them and run them in the real world. Your concerns are valid, although I don’t believe it’s an issue. The longer OP has to wait responding to these things and doing redesigns, the longer it takes to get them in our hands. If you fill yours with rocks and they split apart, i’m sure this entire thread would love to see it and we could all learn something, implementing a change in V3

Man, so on the fence here. Maybe when you do the rears, I'll order all of them. I really just do slow crawling from time to time but these will be good to have.

This thread originally started off just as a simple "what do you think" after a few months and a ton of feedback, design changes, prototypes to production models its turned more into a frenzy of "I want a pair". At this point I am done with the R&D and offering the V2 front bump stop for sale. This bump stop may not be perfect for everyone's specific needs, but it is for the majority, Especially now I have the V2.

I read that you never thought of bump stops before reading this thread. The reason these were made in the first place is because I was in the market looking for bump stops. What I found was all the aftermarket guys are trying to make there bump stop fit as many different vehicles as possible to sell to a wider audience to make more sales. It makes perfect business sense...
due to the universal fit whats available aftermarket does not fit properly (to big, to tall) and all of the aftermarket bump stops interfere with the shocks dampening ability because the bump stop is in constant contact with the frame/strike pad. .Why do we spend big $$$ shocks just to have a piece of rubber or foam interfere with the dampening of the shocks. My bump stop was designed to be as short as possible as to not interfere with the shocks dampening. They were also designed prevent the hard contact that we are all familiar with when hitting a OEM bump stop.

We all build are trucks to fit our specific needs and this bump stop was made to fit the bill for me. I have not had any issues myself with debris filling the cavity. The hole is only about 1-1/4" deep or so.
I don't believe debris would become a problem, but there are to many variables to really say definitely. When you talk about gravel and mud, I would think it would simply squish out.

Hey JJ04TACO, I think you will be just fine without them for now. Once your ready, I'll still be around. When you get to a point on the trail of hitting your OEM bumps a few times really hard, that's when I would consider spending the money. I ran trails for years with my OEM's banging. Its loud and it hurts... so I started looking into solutions and didn't find any aftermarket options that i Liked so I made my own. I'm in the plastics and rubber industry, so building bump stops is kinda like a carpenter building a dog house...

FWIW I've got timbrens on the rear and they tend to get mud inside the cup. Doesn't affect how they run, I don't really notice until I'm washing the truck and mud comes flinging out. I've also had water freeze a little in there too. So far after 2 years I have no issue

So according to the photo's they should be installed as the rear bump vs the front bump on the LCA? Got mine today! In your testers experience, has this been the best way to run them?

Actually I was wondering this myself...I assumed I should be putting them on the front (closest to the grill) but the pics on page one show them on the rear of the LCA. I've seen other guys retro-fit Wheeler's bumpstops to go on the front. Is it just personal preference or is it better to put them on the rear?

Front ends between the 2 are virtually the same (3rd gen T4Rs and 1st gen Tacomas), not sure if it would make a difference but maybe :notsure:

It looks like the stock front pad is larger than the rear. It looks like the top surface is broader and maybe a smidge taller. I wonder if it is better to replace the smaller rear one because of this size difference.

For reference, this a photo of Frankenstein's original passenger side UCA, borrowed from @Blackdawg
