Does anyone have these aftermarket lights?

Curious if anyone has tried these headlights..

Id suggest posting in the "lighting" forum

 

Always remember you get what you pay for, also check with local inspections laws in regards to lighting.

 

Crap crap, crappity crap crap.
Ebay, spyder, spec d, carid, and ive seen some cheap tacomabeast stuff.

Leaks, hazing premature oxidizing, poor optics.

Go with factory headlights and halogen bulbs.

I have them, Bought them on ebay for 175$ shipped

Installed about a month ago, Running them with HID bulbs (they come with halogen but have appropriate projectors for HID) good cutoff on low beam, been in a few downpours and no issues with leaks, even if you have leaks thats easy to fix with a bead of silicone around the housing.... My OEM ones were hazing within a couple years so I can't imagine these being much worse in that department but for 175$ they were worth the shot for me in any case.

 

To clarify. Halogen and HID projectors are not one in the same.

I wish they made single projector headlights for 12+ without the stupid LED DRL optics. I wouldn’t mind retrofitting a set with better internals.

 

Ill try to get a pic tonight if I can.... but the beam / cutoff looks just like my retrofitted OEM lights. What else would make them a dedicated hologen projector? Not trying to be a smartass as I literally know very little about the subject, and bought these expecting not to be able to throw HIDs in them, so clarification would be useful for me.

 

The optics are crappier and given they are 2 different light source types the cutoff may only look the same because a projector cutoff is artificially made from a actuated plate blocking off a portion of the beam. I’m not saying you can’t do it, just that the light is not going to be optimal.

 

If you care to indulge, by saying the optics are crappier exactly how is this so between the two?

You say the "light is not going to be optimal" not really sure what to make of this either, you mean it won't be as bright, or the beam is somehow different?


Sorry these are probably lighting newb questions and admittedly I have not done a whole ton of research on the subject, I just know these are a whole lot brighter than a stock setup and have a nice cutoff that keeps others from being blinded, unless there is something I am overlooking ,I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between these and my old retrofits.



EDIT: I guess a better question than asking you to get all technical with optics and what not, is are there any identifiable physical differences in the projectors? I had kind of just assumed they sent their headlights with halogen lights to keep costs down, as the projectors from my untrained eye look identical to my old retrofits.

To sum it up for anyone interested:

The only notable difference in a hid projector vs a halogen projector was the size and shape of the reflector. Everything else is the same, but the way the bowl reflects the light (nothing to do with the lenses) seems to focus the halogen light in a tighter beam.

You are not losing any light if running an HID in a halogen projector, but since the HID bulb has more lumens, a HID projector will more effectively distribute the light throughout the beam.

Here is a good pic from that thread... these are both OEM projectors (one being HID and the other halogen) taken from a Toyota Avensis both running HID bulbs

(it isn't noted but im going to assume top beam is halogen projector)








As noted before, Ill try and get a good shot of the Beam from these headlights in the OP soon.

Inwood Customs, I'm very rough on my truck, my last Tacoma would blow out a high end halogen bulb every month or two, so I'd rather go with anything else. Every headlight hazes up after a few years. The one review i saw of that light said it leaked and it pours where I live.

I forgot to mention cheap lights lenses peel from the inside.

I dont know what your doing with your headlights causing the halogens to blow out...sounds like oil on the bulb, or a voltage regulator issue.

"high end halogen"?
Is that over wattage, or "brighter" than oem?
Those generally die out faster since they are overdriven.
