    Thank you!!!

i totally forgot about updating this thread... Let's see, where to begin... Let me keep it short...

After Christmas, I got more into road cycling to help with the recovery and started biking almost everyday... i am currently riding 15 miles a day... March 3, I caught Influenza B and went into septic shock, so UCLA medical center put me in isolation for 4 days... during the whole 4 days i was awake maybe for a few hours... i finally recovered around March 9...

On March 11, I was out biking at the Rose Bowl when an SUV decided to make an illegal u-turn mid block in front of me as I was approaching at about 15 mph... i hit my brakes and went into a slide, locked up my front brakes and flipped over... landed on my face and stomach on the street just before the SUV so, cops said i was at fault in a solo accident for unsafe braking... per the cop, i would have been better off actually hitting the SUV instead of hitting my brakes... SMH... the SUV subsequently left without even helping me get out of the middle of the street... luckily, a good samaritan walking by happened to be a nurse and when I told her i was a kidney transplant, she knew what to do and gave the paramedics instructions on how to treat me... i was then taken by ambulance to the nearest ER to have my lip stitched up and my kidney checked...

Unfortunately between the flu and the impact of the accident on my belly, my new kidney went into mild rejection and the transplant center went to work quickly with medications to save it...

In April, my heart disease kicked in and I started getting daily heart palpitations again and a few times since then I have had a few sharp chest pains.... i now have to carry a bottle of nitroglycerin with me 24/7 and have had several tests done... waiting on cardiologist to determine if I will need to go back on the table for another angiogram...

whew... well, other than that, i am doing great... just living life one day at a time and making the most of it... not taking anything for granted... =)

Glad to see you're doing well Mikey. You probably don't remember me, been a long time, CT days. Lei's good friend.

Hey Will... yah, kidney disease jacked up my brain pretty good, but your truck looks way familiar... we used to do those epic CT Barstow runs, right? back when we were all midtravel?

I didn't expect you to remember me, I disappeared from CT. It was like over 10 yrs ago too but yes CT Barstow & Lucerne days. I miss those days, I don't know anyone with trucks to go have fun anymore & it sucks.

Yeah I'm still midtravel though. Always wanted to go LT but I got into machining which is not a cheap hobby. Here's a pic from back then, I think you were there that day, behind KFC or something like that near the outlets. Photo taken by Phil.

Nice, great to hear you still have it. Been replacing all sorts of stuff to mine this past month. Do you guys still go out to Barstow or anywhere else? If yes please let me know, I'm itching to go do something. All I do around here are short fireroads with my buddies that have full size trucks & not very often.

And good to hear from you!

    Hi all.

Just ducking in for a second. Summer has been an interesting road. I celebrated one year post transplant on August 9 with my family. Around the same time, I was dealing with some minor kidney rejection issues per my blood work, but docs felt comfortable as I was not displaying the other symptoms of full rejection. They had to adjust some meds but got me closer to normal. I will find out more progress reports tomorrow, so keeping fingers crossed.

Anywho, if anyone is interested, I will be forming a team for the L.A. Kidney Walk on Sunday October 14, 2018 in the San Fernando Valley. So far, it's me, my wife, and my kids. Trying to get my brother to join. I could use a couple bucks towards my fundraising efforts, so please feel free to check out my page at http://donate.kidney.org/goto/MohawkMike

You can donate or share the page or both. If anyone is actually interested in joining my team and walking alongside me, you can register at the page as well.

    Thank you!!!

    -Mohawk Mike
