williams is a good set of sockets... its snapons industrial brand

 

Isn't it kinda just an outlet brand for less than perfect items

 

everything ive gotten from Williams (sockets and a few ratchets) have been typical snap on quality. the ratchets are blue points so meh. but the sockets are damn good. all my standard sockets at work are williams, my metric are all snap on... i wish i had just gone williams now.

 

now theres the new flank drive plus snap on sockets... Those are amazing.. but pricey.. they do work getting rounded bolts out though.

 

This is the Blue-Point set I was looking at. I get a student discount through my university with Snap-On, so everything is about 60-70% off retail.

What do you mean by industrial brand?

 

oh if your getting the discount go for it.
hand tools from snap on and the air hammer are what id say to jump on.
air tools get IR. electric get milwalkee

So far I've picked up three of their ratchets. The student discount is pretty nice, here's the breakdown of it.

 

only issue i have with blue point is the fact its from taiwan. honestly for non us made stuff, i just go gearwrench. my car set of 1/4 3/8 and screw driver kit is all gearwrench. no issues with them.

 

you know how much i envy you right now. lol
if you have the discount abuse it. if you can spend a little more coin get the newer snap on sockets with the flank drive plus or whatever they call it. they can get an almost completely rounded bolt out. nice to not need bolt extractors.

 

Are Williams sockets made in America?

 

yes, at least they were when i got mine. pretty sure theyre still made in the snappy plant

I'd spring for Snap-On sockets, but they're just too damn expensive for a full metric and SAE set even with the discount. I can spend $1k on sockets and barely come close to what comes in the Blue Point set.

I don't wrench professionally, these tools will live in my garage for the rest of time. I'm looking for a good middle-ground tool. Not as cheap as Harbor Freight, not as Mid-Range as Stanley or Husky, and not as expensive as Snap-On or Cornwell.

 

Go good for metric. get cheaper stuff for SAE, you'll use SAE way less than the metrics.

 

I go through 2mm allens like it’s nothing...

 

i cant say i've used a 2mm Allen within the year

 

Is Metric becoming more common? I've worked on a few American cars and surprisingly it was all mostly Metric.
