YES! Thank you and thank you everyone for the positive feedback. I was keeping finger crossed it would be civilized and not a shit show. All experiences and opinions welcome! Anyone here has a right to speak his mind based on ownership and experience. Now if a Non Tacoma owner (ever) troll came on here to vote and bash, that’s a whole different thing. So far so good! Hope I didn’t jinx it either!

Almost...especially recently...not sure why. Wish everyone was civilized and either post something productive or move on but you’re right, it starts with one can being opened then everyone dives in...I’m glad though because I really wanted to see how people felt because on a forum all you’ll ever see are posts about problems or mods, but that’s what forums are for. So I was hoping to collect votes for those that are silent bystanders and love thier truck because of someone new to a forum didn’t know better, they would say a Tacoma isn’t reliable, so why has it been around for so long as one of the best sellers, right?

Mind explaining the rationale behind that relationship? Not being sarcastic, dead serious brother, why would that be?

Rear diff leak waiting on Toyota to fix
    AC fan -fixed
Top rubber/plastic strip on roof keeps coming off .Fixed once, going to have to get it done again when I go in for the differential.
    Battery crapped out today.

Truck is slow if ECT not engaged.
Seats/driving position suck on long trips.

I won't lie, I still have regrets and thick about getting rid of it, but I like the looks of it and there really isn't another option right now. I might look at rangers when they come out, but I'm not a fan of Ford .

A bunch of 16’s and 17’s that weren’t part of the recall for the leaky rear diff. I know I wasn’t on the recall and my diff has seeping. Tons of others have already posted in those threads that they had issues. I just think a few people will think back and say oh I had an issue with a leaky diff I forgot or I had some wind noise or dash creeks or something. I’m not trying to pick these truck apart just saying these trucks aren’t bullet proof. But what is? Especially now a days

I’ve had no issues and I love my truck so why does that make me a good candidate for a rear diff leak? :notsure:

Have you taken a peek? Just saying. I remember mine just seeming like it appeared overnight. Bunch of 17 OR’s with them and Toyota was saying they weren’t the ones effected

I have and so far so good. I’ll admit I don’t have a lot of miles on mine but I will definitely keep an eye on it now that you have brought it to my attention. I thank you for this bit of helpful insight. :fistbump:

17 sr5 dclb i purchased as a work truck. Has 25600 on the odometer
I have had several issues with the truck
Squeaky leaf springs at 1000 miles (meh) they squeak.... (whatever trucks make noise)
Loose u-bolts after 1000 miles. 6 were only hand tight. ( I torqued them down)
Popping sound from front passenger shock (meh) changed to the 5100's and that was fixed
A/C fan broke (dealer fixed it)
Needed tsb for transmission flares and hard down shifts. (Dealer fixed it, but it still acted funny)
Leaking diff ( dealer kept it 38 days to fix)
The truck ran great for about 8 months and the leaking diff popped up again. ( took it in and they claimed it was residue from the repair that didn't get cleaned off)
Leaking third brake light ruined/stained the headliner. (Dealer fixed so far 2 car washes and it hasn't come back.)
Last weekend the power steering went out.

That’s the type of constructive points I’m talking about, this would be something I would never have guessed to look at either, now I will!

@Lawfarin is this leak specific to any year or trim? Is 2018 still a target for this? Is this something that happens on 4x4 versus 4x2...regardless of year? I’d like to research this more.

No problem. Hopefully yours doesn’t leak. Honestly I forgot to mention it the other day when I brought the truck in. I worked an overnight and didn’t have an appointment when I stopped in for my 20k. I don’t work for them anymore so I don’t have the convenience of getting stuff done while I’m at work. I haven’t checked the diff in a while either. I kind of stopped carring lol. It’s just a seep and not an actual leak so it’s not like the truck is gonna blow up. But at the same time it should of formed a leak with 7k on the clock. Now I have 20k on it. As long as get it taken care of before the warranty is up that’s all I care about.

Feeling and emotion. Why do people not listen to logic and go with their gut? Why do people do stupid stuff? Why believe a simple poll like this? Because in their minds, they have an opinion so everyone else MUST have that same opinion lol.

In my job I am surprised every day. What I think should be true is countered by data, so I have to change my mind. I have learned to form and opinion but be ready to be wrong lol. People are just amazing.

I’m too lazy to search the threads but there are a bunch about the rear diff leak. I think it was mainly SR and Sr5’s and a few sports. I don’t think any offroads were part of it. Was 16’s and some 17’s that were part of the recall. However on here it seemed like quite a few 17’s and offroads have leaky diffs. Not sure I have heard any reports of issues with any 18’s.

Thanks! So was it an official TSB or on a case by case basis?

Yeah, I was under my truck when I was doing one mod or another and I looked at everything. I can honestly tell you without you mentioning it, I wouldn’t have made it a normal practice - Like wash truck, check diff.
So in all sincerity I do thank you.

They could be if people wanted to, but why would they of everything is fine? Wouldn’t mind seeing more of them but honestly because no one cares when someone is happy and has no problems, others feel there is no contribution, just wasted server space lol. But to be clear, I am not against it. Would love to see it more. I probably should’ve said it rarely happens as opposed to saying or making the assumption that’s not what forums are for, statistically speaking...problems outweigh the random I love my truck posts I suppose...

I have heard so many things about the third gen problems and how Toyota blew it with the third gen because it’s the same truck since 2005 with a lousy 3.5L v6 and crappy auto transmission.

I haven’t experienced any of the issues that have been discussed on this forum and I am completely satisfied with the power delivery of the engine and the shifting of the transmission. The 3rd gen tacoma isn’t for everyone and you must do a thorough test drive before committing to buy one but so far I am happy with my purchase.
