Yes I remember having to give a copy of my DD214 to the local tax office for a small concession. Only problem is that property taxes in CT are about 4X what similarly valued properties in GA are. Moved out of CT in 1990 and am currently selling my Mom's old house there so I know your pain.

You can always vote with your feet as well.

Edit: I hope that wasn’t political.

I will say... I would not have been able to purchase the house I'm living in, with California's ridiculous prices. CT is pretty bad though. Probably not ever moving out of this state so I guess ill have to deal with it

Just got the notice for my wife's 2011 Mini Cooper $240.00 Hate to see what the 2010 Tacoma is going to be my guess $400+ In California Pickups are considered Commercial Vehicles thus higher fees. Not fees, Taxes.

$172 for 2 years in Pa.
Of course we have annual safety inspection ($25) and emissions test depending on where you live ($40)
I do remember buying a new car in California in 1994 and receiving my registration the following year ($300ish), luckily I was active duty non-resident and it cost about $25.

    Get ready...

Reg fee is 6+% of purchase price, then every year you get your excise tax. This year $900+ for a 4 year old truck and 07 Camry. Thank you Dan Malloy. Remember this when he runs for president.

Mods: Is this still a Tacoma?
Me too, except I bought mine out of state and instead of “date of entry into Ca” they accidentally went off of purchase date. Needless to say one was within the 20 days you have to register penalty feee and the other wasn’t. Know how much the “late penalty” was (that they eventually refunded me)? Add another $400...and even if I was late, that penalty was for 1 day over in commifornia.
