EZ wheeling, fun?

 

I used my recovery strap and shackles for the 1st time today pulling my buddies Cherokee out of the mud.
Now, do I wash it off and let it dry before I roll it up to put it away? I’d like it to last.

I really dislike tearing my stuff up, but I like doing things that I’m not sure I can. Some of those Toyota’s from Illinois were flat out built and they had problems on those boulders.

In fact I bailed until everyone had left to do it. If I had failed I would’ve had to figure it out alone. I probably have no paint left on my skids or sliders, but I only had to change my line once.

Those Firestone’s are awesome.

 

Do you guys have any nearby wheeling trips planned later this summer? Maybe something beginner friendly?

 

I too enjoy things that are challenging. It's fun going through something and thinking "wow I cant believe the truck did that"

Ha, neat trick. I was wondering how to view people’s signatures on mobile and now I know. And sounds enticing but still slightly terrifying. I should have these new wheel bearings and the ECGS needle bearing installed well before then and I don’t have the kids that weekend so I’ll definitely think about it.

Most trail systems are well marked. Green is beginner, blue, moderate, red advanced, black....call a tow truck.

You can spend 2 days on green and blue at Black Mountain. The fall meet isn't until the last weekend of October, but watch "Official Central Kentucky" thread (in Kentucky sub-forum) I'll be going in early to mid September and will post then. The entire purpose of that ride is to take a few rookies to see if they're interested in the October meet.

Red River Gorge has some relatively mild sections. Also, Blue Holler (Near Mammoth Cave) is a middle of the road degree of difficulty at worst. Good place to learn. Alternate by-pass around 99% of the tough stuff.

 

What they said. Rush is a very good place to see how comfortable you are in the truck. The truck is way more capable than you are, trust us on that. None of us will let anyone deliberately wreck their truck.
There are more than enough easy and medium trails to keep you busy there. Almost every trail is wide enough to turn around on, too, or leads back to an easy trail.

People shouldn't continue to say they want to wheel but then be afraid to jump in the mud. I was just in that same boat last March at LBL '17. Now I'm bitten and LOVE it!

I'm 61. Bought my first 4wd before I even had a license. Had one every since. I've seen a LOT of newbies. The ones that do best just jump in and go....pick someone who doesnt beat the crap out of their equipment and follow their lead. Go slow. In spite of what you might hear, slow works better that floorboarding it most of the time. Gather experience.

But.....go for it. Not rocket science.

 

The same reason you take a spare tire places...

I have most of a full suspension in my toolbox. Doesn't mean I ever expect to blow a shock. The most "serious" thing we've repaired on a trail ride has been changing a few tires that got sidewall punctures.
