The 235/85R16 is doing almost 4% fewer revolutions per mile than the 265/70R16 so make sure to correct your odometer mileage reading. It's not going to get you to 11.6 MPG but it's 10.4 MPG anyway.

My stock ones were 245/75/16. Last fill up I got 412 miles that was not factoring the size difference. I averaged 20.9 mpg on that tank.

OP here. Just returned from a trip to the mountains outside of Eugene OR. 1.5 hrs on the freeway, up over the mountains to Sisters and back to the freeway. Measured 20.5 mpg. I'm pretty happy with that.

I did notice some side to side jumpiness with the tires on the trip down but we had a pretty stiff side wind. On the way back there were no such issues. Tire noise is more than the OEM tires but it is not at all objectionable. And yes, they do pick up stones. I suspect I'd have to go to a true mud tire to get away from having to pick gravel out of my tires.

I think the appearance thing is just that we're all used to Tacos with pretty meaty (wide) rubber on them. I grew up in Germany, so my exposure to off-road vehicles was all about Unimogs, G-Wagens, some old Land Rovers, the VW Iltis, that sort of thing. With that background, even the stock 245/75R16s looked ridiculously wide to me at first. There's something pretty neat looking about the tall, moderately narrow off-road setup. Optics aside, it's all a matter of use - if you need the float, go wide; if you need to make it through rocky stuff, go narrow, if either will do, go with what makes it look better to you. Saw the pics you had further down in the thread - I think your truck looks pretty damn nice with these.
