OEM tailgate actuator dealer price?

I purchased a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off-road 4 x 2 yesterday and I asked the sales man twice if it came with auto locking tailgate and he kept saying yes & that it came standard with the 4 x 2 TRD Off-road. We signed the paperwork they handed me the keys and guess what, no auto locking tailgate. The salesman who of was very young looked shocked and went and garbed the sales manager. The sales manager tried to dance around it, but the salesman admitted in-front of his boss his mistake (+1 for the salesman). Anyway the sales manager made a big deal about it and I was just wondering what the actual price is. Thanks

 

It came on my '18 TRD OF 4x4.

You should have tested it before you signed. Is the dealership going to do anything about it?

 

Auto locking Tailgate is not a Toyota option.
You can buy an aftermarket kit like Pop and Lock and install it yourself or pay someone to install it.

Yes the dealership is going to install the actuator since they had sold the vehicle and claimed it was included on in the sales price.

There isn't an OEM power tailgate lock. I believe the most common ones the dealerships install is pop and lock.

I don´t know why the manager was so upset, if MSRP is 289, its probably about 150-180 dealer cost, if not less than that.

 

pop and lock under $100 Amazon 30 to 45 min to install ..

i wired mine so it only opens when the passenger door is activated .

Not all region's get that. It's a dealer add on mainly in the south I believe.

 

Yes, Gulf States region for sure, they kill us with overpriced add ons.

 

I imagine they can be easily negotiated down since they definitely build some margin into those add-ons.

Region based. Gulf states have it as an optional add on, but only have like 14 or 16 add on dealer accessories.

West coast has 45 dealer add on accessories but the auto locking/unlocking tailgate is not one of them. If you want to see it for yourself, build a taco on Toyota’s website with a Los Angeles zip code, then do it again for a New Orleans zip code.

 

I knew that it was standard on the TRD with 4 x 4 that is why before we started price back in the dealership I asked twice & the second time the sales man said it was on the truck. So, I figured that it was an add on somewhere along the way and would have be included in the purchase price. I will update after I talk to the salesman today.

 

You can buy a $5 door lock actuator and do it yourself if the dealer doesn’t do it for you. Mine has been working perfect for 18 months.
