Heard Toyota is adding a periscope where the sunroof's were, for those Tacoma owners that think they have a submarine/Truck combo.

Everybody hating on the snorkel but just wait in 6mo when Chinese factories are cranking out $100 knock-offs people will flock to eBay. You’ll see just as many snorkels as knock-off pro grilles.

My $.02: With the Ford Ranger due to make its re-appearance as a 2019 model I would think Toyota will have to offer something to at least give the appearance of a "not new but improved" Tacoma (and not necessarily just the off-road version). Whether that's electronic in nature, or mechanical or both is anyone's guess.

Consider the current version of the Tacoma came out as a 2016 model, with incremental improvements or refinements in each of the following years, might it be time for something a little more in the way of improvements. What was the new item last year, making the trailer tow package standard, adding TSS (which isn't even unique to Tacoma)?

I understand that the Ranger won't knock off the king of the hill (at least not initially, if ever) it will undoubtedly take sales from the Tacoma line, and a manufacturer like Toyota will fight to hold on. To tout a new color or some new tricky item like that go-pro mount might not be enough.

I imagine toyota is just going to "wait and see" just how well or not the ranger sells before making any drastic changes to their lineup. 2019 tacoma will be identical to 2018

I am going to hold off until 2020 models come out and take a gamble of some changes before buying a Gen 3.

If there are no changes then i will try to grab a leftover 2019 OR

dude. no regrets buying a pro either. you’re totally correct about the offsetting of selling Pro parts for new stuff. that is a real thing. lots of people buying all the pro parts for their OR’s and other trims.

as for the snorkel, people seem to have a misconception that it’ll be standard...it’s not if you guys actually read and did your homework. it will be an option to add it IF you want it. the snorkel’s main purpose is to bring cleaner and colder air to the engine. now if you want to bring it in water, you would need to couple it with a rear differential breather. the ARB snorkel is also WAY better than the TRD one in the way it’s designed.

I was the first one to answer the OP and I stated it may be an option. Either way, it is a gimmick and unless you live in a desert and encounter the kind of dust storm in previous post you don’t need that piece of crap. Let’s be real about it. It’s a gimmick and we all know it’s value is super limited to maybe a handful of serious owners who could actually need that hideous thing.

Just a question about the Pro purchase. If you sell the parts off the new truck you just bought (that you are paying for anyway in the price of the truck), just to turn around and buy different parts... How are you saving money or even offsetting prices. It makes much more sense to buy a “lower” model like an OR and just pay for the stuff you really want. The only thing selling your OEM parts you are paying for anyway is doing is helping people who want pro parts.

I still get why people want the highest trim Tacoma, but it just doesn’t make economical sense to me to pay more for basically a sport/OR hybrid with rims, skid plate, and leather.

They would not be saving money, they would be throwing away over $7,000.00 after selling the OEM parts off, and then buying other parts.

If you take a skid plate or light assembly or fog lights or grill or wheels or suspension etc off an OR you get close to nothing in return. With a Pro I have 1,000s of OR and Sport owners that will buy my Pro used stock parts and at a really good price. Reason is, Toyota is ridiculously expensive for some OEM parts. There is a huge market and tons of counterfeit. So people pay good money for OEM.
Now if I take the money I get from those sales, it offsets my cost for aftermarket products. Making my bottom line less to attain new parts, by selling my old ones.
Some things on my Pro I may never sell because buying aftermarket is more expensive.

No doubt you can sell your parts...but you'll never come out ahead.
Same for off road/sport users selling aftermarket stuff.
In my opinion, an off road ownrr who keeps their own parts, rather than selling them for nothing, will come out ahead over Pro owners who tries to re-obtain OEM parts when it's time for resale.
This is of course when both trucks have been modified to the owners liking.
When resale comes around, you'll want to sell your vehicle as close to factory as possible to get top dollar. The Pro loses there. It's not a legend, rare or old enough to get an imaginary dollar figure just cause it's a pro...yet..or its still yet to be seen.

I get that. But remember you already paid for the upgraded parts when you bought the truck. So essentially you are buying a truck (with add ons included), and then selling those parts to get better parts. Why not buy a lower model and just get what you want to begin with.

I understand the mentality and the market for the OR and Sport owners wanting the parts. But what I don’t understand is how selling the parts for whatever you can get for them and then buying new stuff makes sense.

You are paying for the OEM stuff at the time of purchase and even if you get all or more of the money back to buy new stuff, the parts were paid for when you bought the Pro. Just doesn’t make sense to me to buy a more expensive truck and then just sell the parts that were the reason for paying extra in the first place. Do you see what I’m getting at?

I don’t plan on “just selling parts”. But if I do, I’ll get good money. We will all upgrade, difference is that when I do it won’t be as expensive. I know it was more expensive to buy in at Pro trim. I pay my car note. And signed the dotted line. Doesn’t change the fact that the parts I will end up selling are worth more. I see exactly what you mean. Please tell me though... what mods have you done to your OR? And how much did they cost? I’m interested on how much you actually saved buying bare bone stock OR.

Yeah I accept I won’t come out ahead. But I can enjoy a badass setup for a couple years until I upgrade, then sell my parts to help cushion the inevitable build costs. OR or Pro you’re gonna upgrade or mod. But I’ve yet to see someone take $5k I paid more for my Pro and add all those features plus a better suspension for less than $5k. Everybody claims it’s less expensive to mod an OR to better than Pro level. I’ve yet to see anybody back that up. I’m sure they are out there, and must have done their own labor. Time is money to me. Love to see their results. I’ve seen a few approach that with sick leather interior (although not heated) blacked out bezels, pro grills, Rigid fogs or equivalent, swapping hoods, and adding Pro wheels, suspnsion etc. Parts plus labor and the time it takes to order and pickup add up.
