What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Drove the truck because I felt guilty. My AC went out again. On the plus side the truck was acting pretty chill about me ragging on it in 105° heat, SC was whining and I was banging each shift at 4700k or so. As long as I trap it in open loop under boost it is happy haha. Still vibes on the highway, no idea what that's about still.

 

Glad you got the truck out at least n left the cushy LC at home

 

I think I leave it alone because I've been to lazy to find out what's up with the vibes and install the meth :/

 

Yeah i understand that. Its has had some good struggles lately w the ac n sc tuning. Youll get it figuref out though

 

Ahhh jealous...I need to do mine but I think tackling the timing belt is a bit out of my league lol. only 68k on mine currently but it's still the original belt from 04 so I think I should make it a priority soon.

 

I'm glad yours is holding a charge, probably took 6 years to get that low, I bet it'll keep holding. Mine is either where the pressure line meets the condenser or where the suction line meets the evaporator. It's $100 for all the lines and a new denso condenser so I'm just gonna have them replace them all so it's fresh. The guy at my shop is super nice and regrets not finding both leaks the first go around so he's only charging me for the r-134 charge which is very little.

 

Considering I didn’t have a skid plate on the truck before I would consider this a big upgrade in protection.

 

i was scared too, not gonna lie, but after yesterday I realized its not that difficult. Just time consuming. I was just a helper seeing whats what. But @turbodb write-up is money and @Timmah! vid will make it very doable. The cost of the tools n parts will save you a ton in the longrun

 

These are actually great up grades over stock skid plates,
They come in 7 or 10 gauge,
7 guage (3/16") thick

 

hope you don't wheel it like that...oil pan being exposed and all. Be like playing hockey with your nutsack hanging out in the open.

The stock one is about as durable as a tin can but it's far better than nothing.

 

I just did mine last week, I had 214K on my original belt. Haha.

Yeah not too bad if you're mechanically inclined. I used to work on cars for a living so it wasn't hard, as said just time consuming. I choose to take the radiator out to have more room to work with but not required. Just be careful not to bend the fins. With the radiator out I covered the condenser fins with cardboard.

Hardest part for me was getting the crank bolt loose & retorque but that's because I have a bad back & I'm short.

Too bad you weren't so far, I'd be happy to help you do it.

 

Northridge isn't too far, maybe 40 minutes haha I'm probably going to wait a few months until it cools down before I do it one way or the other.

You have to get down low to see the plate for obvious reasons
My skid plate comes straight up to the support because I had the 5 speed Radiator that is shorter in height. The other members skid plate is box like because he has an auto or has the taller radiator 22” tall, FYI
I actually have the Champion 3 core Radiator that is 18.5” core height compared to
to stock height of 20” core stock height. So you gain added approach clearances if you have the 5 speed radiator because you can use this skid plate
