$1500-1700 a month is a mortgage. Paying that for an apartment or something I'm not investing in seems like such a waste of money regardless of the state. Getting yourself an RV or a tiny house and then you can wander wherever you want and take home with you seems like a good idea.

I enjoy having a "home base" but I've seriously considered building out a tiny house so that I can travel for longer periods with a more comfortable home away from home as well.

 

Yup, my girlfriend and I pay about that amount for 2 houses. The houses we are looking at in SC will be around that for 3000 sq ft. Can't imagine paying that for a 900-1100 sq ft apartment.

 

Also to go with this. An old friend of mine works for Google and lives in San Fran. Pays $2600 a month for a 750 sq ft apartment. Granted he makes around $150k a year but that's nothing for the cost of living.

I was assuming he meant even though you may get a bigger paycheck in CA, fed comes a callin', and comes a callin' at a higher rate due to the bigger paycheck.

PGE (the gas/electric co over there) pays well for welders. Kinda hard to get in, but good $$ and benefits.

Also, tons of refineries over in the east bay. ‘Bout 1.5 to 2 hrs from Monterrey.

That’s y’all. I really don’t need or want a homebase in my life right now. I almost got out of the current house I’m in and just got a nice camper to live out of and go wherever I wanted
