Yeah it is, I drive 400 miles a week for school and then during the summer I'm doing 350 a week to just get to and from work. None of that includes the driving that I have to do for work on certain days. I was a little skeptical when I first bought the truck but it's proved me very wrong. It runs better than most of my friend's vehicles that are new lol

Since I get my bumper back this week I thought I might as well start on relocating the turn signals. I might just try this method.

Ha, I put less than 10K/yr on mine. I just passed 200k, it will be an antique by the time it hits 300k. That is if it doesn't rust to dust first.

I don't worry about mine making it to 400k anymore, its a weekend project to swap an engine or trans so whatever happens happens. It doesn't get driven too much right now anyway

Id say is worth it. Your at virtually the same miles as me. @1997tacomav6 is at 568k so id say it would be worth it for you. You seem like someone who keeps up on basic maintenance, so theres no reason your engine shouldnt last way past 300k, but for 800 it is a good deal. I just wanted to learn and start relying on my own work as i found toyota broke two bolts that are now stuck in my oil pump for the lower timing belt cover. I would never have known otherwise.

This is a really common problem with all toyota oil pump bolts, they sell them in packs of 7 because of this.

I would have bought two more but they are still in the oil pump haha. They clearly over torqued them and broke the bolt. Then put gasket maker on it to help it hold  2 outa 4 aint bad :notsure:

You really don't need any special tools.

Just buy the kit, watch some youtube videos, and ask some questions if you get stuck.

I did my timing belt by myself in an afternoon, you're making it out to be harder than it is.

Yup. Been like that for a while, left side is worse than right.

Still haven't seen how those end up looking with a dent or scratches in it yet.

You won't make it that far if you screw up, you have about the same chance of it stranding you now. Not like some flat rate Toyota tech is gonna give it anymore care than you, look at what they did to @Prayn4surf oil pump bolts

I assume, unlike Monte, you know how to torque a bolt? :p

If you get the belt in the right spot, and tighten the bolts, there's really nothing else to cause problems. The OEM belt is idiot proof too with how the cams and crank are marked.

worst case is your timing is off, then it won't start, and you wont get any where near the back country, and have to align the crank shaft and pulley's to top dead center and try again. ask me how I know :anonymous:

It is time consuming, but all I have ever done was an oil change to an engine before as well. I will not be paying someone to possibly over torque things on my engine for this service again. Anyone can do it if you follow Dan's write up, and reference Tim's video for a visual. I feel like if you can read, you can do this. Trust me I understand your fear, as this is why I had a friend show me how basic it really is. Like I said it is just time consuming.

That damage is very similar to the back pillar damage on my 5-lug. Either someone t-boned it at some point which explains the absolutely horrifying bondo job, or the bed folded in.
