You can change out the lamps to LED in a 3rd Gen EXCEPT THE REAR TURN SIGNALS. If you change those out you will get hyper flashing when ever use your turn signal. You need resistors in parallel with the rear turn signal lamps in order to get rid of the hyper flash.

The truck monitors the rear turn signals for a certain load, and if it does not see that load it will hyper flash to let you know a bulb is out. It does not monitor any other lamps - brakes - front signal - reverse - headlamps.

    Hope this helps.

So basically you just added a new hole along the outer portion of the large 2" grommet? I have yet to crawl under the dash and remove the carpet to see what's what. If I get home early enough one night this week I will do that and see where what's coming through that large (like 2") grommet is. I want to stay as high as possible for this entry so that in the future when there are water crossings I don't spring a leak. :D

It just seems like there is a very large wire loom in the center with that sorta flanged portion of the grommet and then there are purposely placed cables. Just looks like if you mess up something here you are messing up something really important.

Thank you for the additional information!!!

When I swapped out my front signals for LEDs I got hyper-flash there too. Didn't want to put the resistors on so I left the factory bulbs in.

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
This makes sense. I would think that front and rear turn signals would be treated the same. If you're trying to make a left turn, there's oncoming traffic, and your left front turn signal is out, might be kinda' nice to know. At least then you'd know to hang your left arm out the window and REALLY confuse everyone.

Got behind a woman once on a 4-lane boulevard. We were in the left lane and she had her left arm extended out the window. I kept waiting for her to make a left turn. Then she pulls her arm in, looks at her nails, and extends her arm out the window again. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Well, I didn't want to use resistors AT ALL. Didn't want to tap into or cut any stock wiring. I bought all replacement LED bulbs for the front turn, rear turn and rear brake as well as the back up lights. The only time I got hyper flash was when I replaced the rear turn bulbs. I rolled around with the stock bulbs for a while - All those bulbs replaced with LED bulbs except for the rear turn lamps - no hyper flash. I bought the Philips ballast listed below in this thread and swapped the turns out to match the rest of the lamps.

I just want to put it out there that you only need ballast/resistors installed on the rear turn lamps. That will solve the hyper flash. I share this info so that someone doesn't go and tap ballast to every bulb on their rig when it's not necessary.

    :)

BTW - I removed one of the brake lamp/led to mimic a burned out bulb - the truck gave me no warning that the brake lamp bulb was burned out/missing. Same with the front signal bulbs. I only got a hyper flash/warning when I removed either rear turn bulb.

Since I don't have a circuit diagram, I'm guessing here... but I *think* that it might not make any difference whether you put the resistors on the front or the rear. The front and rear flasher bulbs are probably in parallel, and your added resistor is in parallel with both front and rear regardless of where it's located.

Good point that only 2 resistors need be added, not 4, but I think I'd want all bulbs to be the same and the resistors built into the bulbs. This also implies that, if there are resistors and a bulb does indeed "burn out", you won't get the hyper-flashing to warn you.

...or I could be completely wrong about everything. Always a possibility.

Thanks Greg. I got the idea off of @smugly . The light bar mount was not cheap at all compared to some brackets. I had a $50 gift card so it made the price reasonable.

If I was mounting it inside the grill though I would never pay full price for those type of brackets, I would just get the ones I had originally bought off Amazon. They are as heavy duty as the ones that came with this mount. Especially since no one is going to see them.

These are the ones I bought and sent back.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LRN53XC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm still not sure how I am going to mount the 42" light bar up at the roof. I tried a test fit with my roof basket and it is not a match made in heaven. I would definitely have to fabricate some sort of bracket or support to use the supplied brackets.

My other three options are to sell my Thule roof basket and buy a different roof basket that is wider, or mount it to the already there OEM roof rack with brackets (that I also had and sent back, paying the shipping :frusty: , shhhh, don't tell the wife), or the most expensive option, buy a high end roof rack, and try to sell the the Thule basket and OEM roof rack to recomp some of the cost.

Then I have to ask myself, how often will I need a roof rack or basket anyway. So those OEM roof rack brackets are looking better and better as I type all this.

    These:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LPR5VQO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We shall see. I need to get off this pot though because I have been sitting on it way too long!!! :D

It made a difference on my truck. ONLY the rear flasher bulbs needed the resistors to get rid of the hyper flash.

You are correct - if one of the flashers goes out I will not get the hyper flash to tell me that it's out. I like the fact that LED bulbs are brighter, last longer, use less electricity and don't get as hot as incandescent bulbs. I'll take that over the ability to have hyper flash warn me of a burned out bulb. Also for me at least - over the years I've developed a habit of doing a walk around of all my vehicles periodically. So I don't rely on hyper flash or warning bulbs to alert me to a problem. That's just me.

If it makes you feel better to put resistors on all your bulbs so they are the same - by all mean do it. It's your truck do what you want with it
