In my never ending search for the perfect suspension for my 2016 Taco, I am now focusing increasingly on OME BP-51 versus Fox Level 4s. I will be doing a good deal of street driving but want to be able to hit trails hard. I don't think I want to achieve more than 1-1.5" difference in lift.

Any opinions on these two? Which is preferred?

What is the minimum lift you can practically achieve with either of these?

    Thanks in advance.

I have zero experience with Fox products however I will say that I love my BP-51s. OME claims 50mm of lift which is roughly 2 inches and I agree with their statement. When out on the trails, the ride is so smooth that I have to be careful not to go too fast if I'm in the lead. Many times I have been up front going what I would consider slow and look in my mirror and see everyone else pretty far back. Slow is relative especially when the ride is smoother to you than it is to someone else.

With the BPs however, they come from the factory pre-configured for a truck with full weight on the front (bumper and winch). If you don't have a bumper of winch, you will need to get a set of spring compressors and compress the front springs so you can adjust the collar. Not a big deal but something you need to be made aware of.

Well, that is good to know. I am not running a winch now, but I am likely to do so. I wonder if maybe I should put the winch on before the OME BP-51s.

No Kidding Have the OME BP 51 setup and you don’t even feel uphill corner washboard. Spendy, but the truck is night and day different off road. A little stiff on some pavement, but I’ll take it!

I looked heavily into the BP-51s but after more research I found I could get a better overall suspension for less money. I went with King’s personally.

Something that might be more beneficial is that those Foxes are 2.5 shock and the BPs are a 2.0 shock. I don’t think anyone has experienced shock fade in the BPs but I don’t know how hard they are pushed. At the end of the day it’s still a 2.0 shock.

Yes. YES!! Sounds like the OME kit profiles too much lift (for me) and is too hard to adjust. For me it's between Fox, Icon and King and like you, I'm only in for a 1" lift. Looking forward to a thoughtful, knowledgable response on this!

I have thought about King's but have heard mixed opinions about their longevity. I'd rather not return to this subject for 50k miles. How are yours doing?

They are amazing but expected to be rebuilt at 50k miles.

I haven’t heard anything negative about longevity with them. Just regular maintenance based on use.

    How about ADS Level 1?

The main reason I haven't focused on ADS is because I can't figure out some basic things about them. For instance, what is the lift range? What is the real performance difference between the different levels of kits? etc.

How adjustable are they? What if I wanted just 1 inch of lift? Is that possible with Kings?

Very adjustable. You can adjust them before mounting or after they are on the truck. I adjusted after they were on the truck and recommend the T-handle which you buy separately.

If I recall correctly they come from the factory with 1” lift which is about 5 threads showing. Mine are adjusted to 11 or so threads.

Because I’m running a steel bumper and steel wire winch I also had the coils upgraded from 600# to 700# for no additional cost.

    I purchased mine from @JT@Bajakits

For the rear I’m running a Deaver stage 2 U402 pack and also running SPC Light Racing UCA

In your case you could probably go with a Deaver J66 pack which is just 1.5 inches. If you wanted a full leaf replacement or stick with a Dakar pack

Those were purchased from Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road

if $$ is of no concern for you, id go ads. They have overall the best of all the mentioned shocks and they build the shock to your application. BP are not 2.5 shocks and the fox shocks are decent, I run the ones with adjustors with 700 king coils.

25001-119 Tacoma 05+ (6 Lug) Front Coil Overs - (Extended Travel) (700# Springs)
    25001-121 Tacoma 05+ (6 Lug) Rear Shocks -

    JT's phone is 949-566-8609. http://www.bajakits.com/

After all said and done, I got everything for $3000 (Shocks, Leafs, UCAs) and for the same stuff with the OME it came to $3500.

With the extra money saved, I got the ECGS bushing and seal and a Timbren Ubolt flip kit.

I'll caveat that there is typically a manufacturer minimum advertised price, so if you call them or PM them they should be able to work a deal.

I would give Ryan @*TRD* with AccuTune offroad a call. They will custom tune your shocks to your application. The Fox 2.5s with DSC adjusters I bought for my 2014 are fantastic. You can adjust them for lift from 0-3" or so. Shocks can be pretty similar, other than the valving they have installed, and the valving knowledge at AccuTune is what makes the difference. They have some great coilover tech articles too

What is the fox stage 4 kit include?

If it's the one I'm thinking it's fox 2.5 extended all around and Dakar leafs.

Which is what I have . Love it.
Haven't driven the BP 51 but heard great things as well. Only the BP 51 don't offer as much lift, although others have said they got 3" from it .Regardless that much preload will make a rough ride whether it's fox or ome.

I will say if your idea of perfect is as high as mine you will not find perfection unless you are willing to spend 10k+

But whether you go ome or Fox both are great set ups. Be aware anything over 2" lift you need new uca anyways which is why I think ome says only 2" as it's supposed to be a direct swap system not requiring other mods.

But really even with 2" UCA are a good idea to help with alignment.

It seems Fox uses better individual components than King. That definitely steered me more towards Fox.

OME looks to be great quality but the height adjustment is a pain if you don't have the right tools.
