I thought this video was somewhat cheesy, but there were some interesting comparisons. The first couple drag races between the 2 are very surprising IMO. I'd like to drive a new Tundra and make my own comparisons to my 3rd gen Tacoma.

I wonder how the Tacoma with OVTune 91 octane map would compare to the 5.7L Tundra.

Not sure but my old RCSB z71 with the 5.3 would put many lengths on a Tacoma. I really didn't expect that race with the tundra to be anywhere close.

These are the same guys who just did a "comparison" of off road capability between a heavily modded Jeep and a stock 3rd gen off road lol.

"Over here we've got a 2017 Sport that we're borrowing from a local dealership and over here we've got Dave's heavily modded Rubicon with front and rear lockers. Man, Toyota's are reliable, but they're just not as a capable as Jeeps."

If you really want an accurate comparison take a look at C&D numbers as they test everything the same way.

0-60 times are about 1 to 1.5s slower in the Tacoma.

I went from a '17 Tundra crew max 5.7 to an '18 Tacoma double cab. Very surprised at the results of the drag race. The Taco feels like a slug in comparison to the Tundra.

@treimche Appreciate you sharing the video. The mid-size truck segment does it for me.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Both great trucks-- what's best for you?-- that depends on your needs, ability to purchase, and lastly, your wants.
My son has a Tundra -- rides waaaay better than mine and way more comfortable than mine -- but I really like my Tacoma

Not surprised, no idea why anyone would buy a tundra over literally any other half ton other than brand fanbois

Why not? My pop is/was a Chevy guy for year ~35+ (mostly Suburbans and Tahoes) and long story short he has had his Tundra for about ~6 years. He loves his tundra and would not go back to GM.

Fuel mileage is a joke, power is terrible, body style and technology with the exception of TSS is 11 going on 12 MYs old. Might as well buy a 2007

I agree, I can't believe how bad they are on gas. The new 2.7 ecoboost in the 150 has less power but the same torque as the 5.7 in the Tundra and it is rated for 19 city and 25 highway. If you opt for the 5.0 and payload package then its closer, 15 city and 19 highway, but I don't know why you would when the 2.7 and 3.5 are good options.

I wouldn't say the power is terrible but it isn't great when you consider the fuel economy.

Exactly why it is a good work truck, in which he hauls hay, tows the horse, no frills - perfect truck. Unless you want that tech....

Toyota has a lot of work to do with the Tundra in order to make it competive with the big 3. Only thing going for it is resale and reliability.
Hopefully it gets a bumper to bumper remake.

I had a 2.7L. Less power on paper than a Tundra, but buttdyno says it's faster. May be due to elevation here, where the turbo's have an advantage. I had the first iteration, but was getting 23-24mpg on the freeway. Excellent engine, and excellent truck overall. It wasn't even a comparison when cross shopping the Tundra.
