I know right! So many people told me “good luck” if I ever got it. 2 seconds to swipe my card and take my hard earned cash, 6 weeks to pay my ass back...

Not to mention when I was registering my taco in Cali from an out of state dealer purchase, they taxed me based on whatever price o wrote and never asked me to pedi every purchase price proof even though I had it and was ready! But the messed up part was they still made me smog it...it’s like cmon I have the sticker that says 50 state emission...she had to check “her system” and because they hadn’t added it to the data base, I had to do it...but guess what, if it’s not 50 state emission, I would never be able to register it in Ca in the first place, but they would never know since they still asked me to smog and if it passed, this contradicts their mandate for CA emissions requirement ..at the same time I know someone else in N CA who has to produce paper works showing price but did not have to smog...like wtf man. Get your shit together.

CA DMV is a shit show ran by very odd people. Like Ringling brothers circus side show type of odd people...very “special” people indeed.

Remember, just like anything in this world, if you think you have it bad, there will always be somebody that has it worse...with that said, welcome to California people. Pretty soon we’ll be charged tax for every pound of weight lost, every time we blink, and anything else they can think of.

That'll get real pricey when they have to start trucking water in lol. Just not enough water in certain parts of Cali to support the use the population is accustomed to.

Paid almost $800 in Maine my first year. 2.4% of the sticker price is ridiculous. I'll finally be down around $300 this year.

A lot of other manufacturer's new sales technique of giving high sticker prices with 8,000-10,000 dollars off really screws you on excise tax.

this is what really gets me about the personal tax in these states is that if you were to keep the vehicle for 10 years, then you would probably pay another 3-4k on the truck, when I lived in PA, no tax on vehicles but we had emission and state inspection each year.
when I lived in SC, no inspection but the tax was high on the truck and now in NC, inspection and tax...haha, it never ends...

I was bracing for a huge excise bill my first year but I ended up paying about 300 for my partial year (transferred sticker from last car) and then only 600 when it was up for renewal a few months later. I think they messed up the calc for the renewal but I am not complaining.

$398 in Kansas covers me for July (end of 60 day tag) - October. Then an estimated $720 in October just for the Tacoma when I renew for the whole year.

    Was paying less than $200 a year for a 2003 Trailblazer, 2000 S10, and 2005 ZX636r.

FL my tag was about $80. I believe that about half of that was for my vanity plate vs standard. Spent almost $300 that day at the DMV shuffling tags between 3 vehicles and changing 2 of the 3 to vanity on heart association support plates.

Each state charges differently. OK FL I pay sales tax buying a vehicle. Back in OK three was no sales tax on vehicles (may have changed since I moved to FL) but there was excise tax each year you renew your tag based on value/purchase price. In the long run I think I pay less vehicle tax in FL.

It hasn't. Lots of people drive to Oklahoma to buy a car for much cheaper. Problem is, once you get it home, you gotta pay your county's sales tax.

Insane part is people will move from a state because of high taxes, etc., then once they get to another state they continue to support the same people/ideas that caused the problems they are trying to escape from.
