What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Ive got a fix for these boxes I'd like to try, was gonna buy one so I'd have less restriction for my measly 4 banger supercharger and it got me thinking my solution to use it for my purposes would fix it for others too.

 

Slide hammer by far one of the most under rated tools in the box. Gotta love it!

Not sure if 95.5-00 & 3rd gen 4 runners actually have more room but for 01-04, using that airaid tube as is would leave no room for the couplers to flex with the engine & I'm sure it would cause the stock air box to crack.

My stock tube was no longer soft & very flexible anymore, when that happens the tube starts cracking which is common on lots of other cars. I suppose it would be possible to cause the air box crack instead of tube.

 

So you'd have to make your own shorter air tube but that's an easy fix you can do at home in 30mins. But they have bolt on necks for making your own pod filter setups that you could just bolt to where the neck has broken off. After that you can use a coupler to a aluminum MAF holder (fairly common just have to get the right size so the metering stays the same), then it's smooth sailing to use a shorter pipe to connect to the TB. If I had a vehicle with a 5VZ to mess with I could make a setup for people with broken boxes but I don't have access to one here so it would just be me futzing around with one for my 4cyl.

 

I can send you my stock 5vz air box with air tube if you want. If it works I'll gladly compensate you and we get a repair guide for TW.

 

Lemme put together a parts list, maybe we can make this happen.

 

I'll be more than happy to do it. And I'll get you some pictures of measurements from grill to throttle body for you. I'm assuming that will be different from a 5vz to the 4 cylinders. But pm me when you're ready

Instead of making that tool you could've just used the hook attachment on the slide hammer and put in on the CV and use it that way. Just food for thought next time.

 

I made a reply that somehow got lost, but to the same effect, I don’t know what the hell youre talking about hook attachment.

I could have also wrapped wire around it or duct tape, instead, I fabbed something up that took minutes to make, is easy to use, is robust enough to take a beating and can be used on multiple vehicles.

I guess you can do it your way, I’ll do mine. There’s your food for thought
