I dint think aftermarket used the factory remote as most come with their own remotes. I don't know what is taking so long for a factory option.... I want to avoid the parasitic draw of an aftermarket one.

Never heard of a single person having that issue of battery drain. The current 3x starters are plug and play. No cutting wires or voiding any factory warranties. Just programs to your factory remotes.

Ive had issues with Compustart on previous Toyotas / Hondas that after long periods of no use battery dead even though they found no "drain" Local Toyota Dealer wont install anything but factory now. When you say 3X you mean like the 12V solutions etc.I'm new here so trying to catch up : )

12volt sells Dei and I sell Fortin. Very similar starters.

Thanks, with 6 months of winter and -40 , remote start is a must. If a factory option doesn't come available I will have to got another route. I like the idea of plug and play. Will have to research the options, differences.

Love my 12 volt H key remote starter, especially on those really hot days and I can precool the inside. Easy install.

I'd have to look @ home, as I only use the OEM remote

Actually after you start it and hit 3x lock again it shuts off. At least that’s how the ones I sell work. So if you hit it 30 times it would shut off vs running for 20 min. :)

The "3x Lock" is a limitation to the core module used at the heart of all these systems. That's how the firmware inside them is setup -- to activate the starting sequence upon a "seeing" three consecutive lock presses within a specific window of time. Why did they choose 3x lock vs lock, unlock, lock, or other combinations? Idk, probably "safer" (i.e. less liability), but regardless unless the vendors are a significant enough buyer from the manufacturers of these modules, or unless those buyers with some weight request alternatives OR one specific manufacturer decides to start doing it, prompting a domino effect in persuit of competition -- it's unlikely to change any time soon.

If you're hitting lock 30 times because you're not sure it locked, I recommend getting a 2 way remote with a confirmation page that let you know the truck received your first (or first few) presses ;).

Actually with fortin you can program it to do lock/unlock/lock.

From the 12 Volt Solutions page the smart phone app for their product does the following:

    Remote start
    Remote Stop
    Lock doors
    Unlock doors
Trunk pop (if vehicle is equipped with electronic trunk release)
    Real time GPS location
    Battery voltage display
Count down timer of run time duration
    Shows if doors are locked/unlocked
App can be installed on multiple phones/devices
Can add multiple vehicle to one app (HIS & HERS for example)

Works with OEM remote, and is Plug & Play. Apparently it's worth $900, (I got it thrown in @ the Dealership who Farmed it out).

This Home page pretty well tells it all. http://www.idatastart.com/en/

Actually after 3 clicks it would start and it would take about 20-30 seconds of run time for it to respond to the 3x command again.

It shuts off after the time limit, when you open the door or hit 3x.

I'd rather hit a dedicated button that doesn't cycle my locks in either direction :).

    A whole bunch :)
With our kit, you can use the OEM remote, a one-way remote, a 2-way remote and pretty much any phone module you want. I like the Fortin stuff.. we use the Evo-All in our K9 kit because it has a trigger input, which Directed and Idata do not. There are like 5 modules that will work on the Tacoma in a standalone (3 lock start) application. We use the DB3 because we were a big DEI fan. We still like them, just not as much as before. We back any product we sell. The one thing about the Fortin stuff is that its a pre-made kit with a ton of extra connectors and loose wires. I have a few here at the shop. We developed our harnesses way before anyone else, including all of the big companies. The dude slinging Fortin didn't design anything.

You know what else I'm gonna do? Just to prove a point.. because that the kind of person I am... I'm going to make the TPMS connector plug and play for you H-key guys. Know what else? I'll shoot a video of one of us remote starting a push button start Tacoma and driving off without the engine turning off when the door is opened just because I know the "other guys" have zero clue how to do it. Why don't we sell our kits this way? Because we aren't stupid. The liability associated with bypassing a vehicle manufacture's safety feature is far to high.

I'm an installer with a very creative and forward thinking mind. I started a company on accident. We make a ton of our own harnesses that mate popular modules to specific vehicles.

In my opinion, no kit is better than the other, as long as the consumer knows what they are getting. If you want to buy from a dude that sells things out of his garage, cool. If you want to buy from a local shop, cool. If you want to buy from 12volt.Solutions or Accessory guy, cool. We all have the same passion. All of these kits will work from the OEM FOB. All of them can use a phone module. All can use aftermarket remotes. What it boils down to is customer service, warranty, and how fast things get fixed if there is an issue. The thing is, the internet is full of sellers. People race to have the cheapest price. If someone buys a product because its the cheapest, then as the saying goes.. "you get what you pay for". If you've never heard of us, Google us. Read our reviews. We don't have a 5 star rating because we suck!
