OME BP-51 versus Fox Level 4

Not to start a debate but I have NEVER heard of that. The consensus seems to be
King/ADS
Fox
OME
Icon
Bilstein
etc

I've never heard of King listed as the top quality... I HAVE heard of their QC issues, noticeable different quality levels between "normal" and "race" stuff and a large fanboy base that skews perception

 

I hear a lot of King fanboys, but nothing factually based saying they have good longevity or quality. I'm open to being swayed if you have anything that supports that?

 

This probably isn’t the thread for that but that argument goes both ways. I’ve never seen anything factual that are bad, just haters who skew perception. See how that works.

There are hundreds or thousands on this forum with zero issues.

That article is almost 3 years old now. Completely irrelevant as King and fox have redesigns.

EDIT: that article even says King don’t come with remote reservoir mounts which we know is false.

It’s alsp wrong about the Viton and Buna seals.

Again no facts. Weighed, measured, and found wanting.

EDIT: Viton is a race seal but it’s not the benchmark not standard. They are more common to leak at low pressures and aren’t recommended for most applications.

Just like any other hobby, we get people defending their purchase. It's nothing personal guys.

 

What matters most, is that we are all happy with our purchases.

Most people don’t need racing seals, delta joints, uniballs, but if it makes them happy then by all means.

 

I'm running the BP-51 kit and love it. I did have the shop adjust the collar since a standard spring compressor won't fit (driver's side adjusted for taco lean..10mm and 12mm, I believe), but once the ride height was adjusted I'm able to dial in rebound and compression depending on the load I'm carrying (camping gear/RRT) or the road/trail/driving conditions (pavement, washboards, trails).

I won't say it's "top of the line," but I'm not jumping dunes or crawling up rock walls either. I was looking for something above a Bilstein 5100 and not quite as spendy as Kings that would provide a soft cushy ride as close to stock as possible. Apparently the BP-51s also have better corrosion resistance? I can't speak to that just yet.

I was personally between Fox 2.5s, Icons and the OME BP-51. Ultimately, it came down to customer service and based on what I've read here and the conversations I've had, OME will take care of you. I wanna say the entire kit + dakars + UCAs was around $3k from @HeadStrong Off-Road.

How is ride compared to a stock DCLB OR?

Im personally leaning towards Fox but did consider BP-51s if I am going OME.

This is the point I was trying to make to the OP. Kings are not as expensive at people think.

 

And you're right. I'm trying to recall and the exact numbers are escaping me. I think the entire king setup with UCAs was going to be like $5-$600 more. Ultimately, I took the advice of a local shop on a kit that plays well with PNW conditions.

 

See this is curious. I’m not sure if you read my post above but I got my king setup for about $500 less than OME with UCA

 

Yep. I read your post. Where were you seeing it for less? This is what I was able to dig up real quick:

That’s why I mentioned “minimum manufacturer advertised price.” Venders can’t advertise cheaper however they can sell cheaper if you contact them.

You won’t find SPC advertised less than $450 but I paid way less than that.
