Im bout to change out of the single pin sight, I got a new string and the sight cant go to the highest level as the bow can shoot. It may be I have the wrong tapes, but either way the sight travels farther than what it allows my bow to shoot. 20yds is mid range of the sight travel and barely gets out to 45 on the sight at max. My bow shoots at 310 ish as by the advertisments, but thats probably lower actual speeds.

You should get a heavier arrow.

Typically companies advertise the IBO speed rating. 70#, 30" draw, 350 grain arrow. Nothing on the string. Ratings aren't realistic in the real world, but do provide a starting point. The first thing I would do is get the speed checked at your pro-shop. If that's not possible, try this arrow speed calculator.

    http://archerycalculator.com/estimate-bow-speed/

When I checked mine, it calculated 275fps. Actual through the chrono was 272fps. My son's arrows calculated 256fps, actual was 254fps. So it seems to be pretty accurate. Once you get your speed figured out, choosing a tape should be easier.

These arrow wraps are tits. Definitely adds visibility to your arrows. Little personality as well!

I was thinking heavier broadheads, Im using 100gr right now. I had some tapes I ordered for this HHA sight and I think they were for the dial type not what I have, which is the lever type. I ordered some new tapes and see what happens.

Something I'm learning about bows is just how clear your mind needs to be to hit your target consistently. A mind game if you will. Really making me love this sport. If I'm shooting bad, I have to stop and clear my head, once I do I can hit stuff again. This sport to me seems to be more about you and not your equipment.

I'm starting to hit stuff out to 40 yards. It's good to be improving. My goal really is to tighten my groups up, I'm still not really were I want to be.

It’s just like golf, you can have the best equipment, and best training. It still comes down to putting all of that together, and if you are not 100% committed to every shot, just like golf, the end result will show.

(The best feeling in the world is when you become ONE with your bow!)

I've always told my son, I don't want a perfect shot, I want perfect form. The shot will follow.

So....how's everybody's summer practice routine going? I test myself. If I shoot a cold group good, I keep shooting. If I shoot less than acceptable, the bow goes away for the night. Cuz in the real world, we don't get warm up shots at the critters we chase. We can't loosen up with several groups. The first arrow has to count.

Here's my 27 yard cold group from when I got home from work. Work at it. Focus on making every shot your "first shot".

Nice group, how many arrows do you go through shooting one on top of another like that?

Dont get much better than that! My shooting sucks. I'm left eye dominant and shoot right handed. To add insult to injury, I inherited shaky hands from my mom's side of the family. My buddy thinks its so bad I should be on disability. Had since I was a kid. Unfortunately my son has the same thing. He doesn't hunt though. In college chasing $$$. Hope he catches it.

I've robin hooded a few. Most damage comes from broken nocks or splintering the ends of the shafts. Once a carbon gets a nick, it becomes a tomato stake. Tonight was an exceptional night. Most groups are just under MOA, 2"ish at twenty, 3-ish at thirty. Typically after shooting a few groups, I'll mix things up. Shoot at the deer, next arrow at spot on the block, next arrow another spot on the block, back to the deer.

Best thing to do is to get a LH bow. It's weird for a bit, but in a few weeks, it'll seem normal. And instead of fighting the eye/hand dominance issue, causing frustration, which leads to punching the release, maybe it will be more relaxing. Just a thought....

so I think I got the right tapes for my bow, but Im told I prob should take the peep up about .25" that will bring down my front sight. Which makes sense, since I got a new string...so Im going tomorrow to take it to my bow guy and move it up and see how that goes for sight in. It should go out to 60+ yds. my bow is definitely capable I just need to get everything set up right.

That's not how MOA (minute of angle) works. One MOA is equal to roughly 1" at 100yds. One MOA at 25yds is roughly 1/4".

And when talking archery distances it’s common for archers to refer to MOA as 2” at 20 yards, 3” at 30 yards, etc... Pretty familiar with MOA at the rifle range as well.

Never heard it used like that but it doesn't change the fact that that's not a minute of angle.

I like to sight my bows and rifles in to be MODD accurate at all ranges - minute of dead deer.
