So i'd like to swap out my stock radio that doesn't have XM/Sirius to a stock radio with XM/Sirius in my 2006. Anyone ever done this? I don't really want an aftermarket stereo simply because i like the stock look. I'm curious if it's as simple as plug and play or if i need a satellite radio antenna or if the antenna is built in to the radio...is the wiring harness different? Thanks!

Thanks!! I was really thinking of something more simple. I've got a 2006 with the old style radio like this-
    [IMG]

And i'd like to fit in this radio so i can have XM-
    [IMG]

I think it would be a plug and play application minus whatever antenna is needed for the satellite radio but i'm not sure...

The units should swap, however you need to check on the XM unit itself, and you'll need the wiring harness for the XM unit and of course an XM antenna.

I did this swap on my 2015 to an SR5 XM radio,

What helped me was to look on eBay for the radio you need as the second pic you listed and look for auctions with more pictures of the back of the radio. You'll see the XM unit and the wiring pigtail that sometimes is included in them.

The connection for the XM antenna gets tricky as you'll need the match the factory plug connector, OR do what I did and buy the cheapest XM antenna on Amazon and with a pair of Stakons I was able to remove all the plastic purple plug from the coax and just plug it right into the back of the XM receiver.

Let me check for pics of this...

    I was wrong...

Seems the radio your looking for may have the XM unit built into it...

I've got my 2009 stock radio I'm about to pull out if you are interested. It is satellite capable, I think for a few years you have to still buy a satellite box. My head unit has a button for satellite radio.

I, too, am looking to upgrade my stock unit to one that is comparable with satellite radio. From what I've found, second gens up to 2011 have the satellite module built in as the later second gens are more modular in that one can simply buy a satellite module (like I mistakenly did), and fit it to the stock unit. Short of eBay, I've yet to find a viable place to look and buy.

This is good news, i thought the satellite receiver was built into the radio itself. I'll check out Ebay too and see what i can find out. Thanks for your help!!

For my 2015 I had to have that separate XM unit that mounts below the radio in the back,

I don't know what years they started that but you'll like having XM in your factory head unit. I sure do...

Sorry for the stupid question but do you mean the back of the radio or the back of the truck?

    no stupid ? at all,

back of the radio....I could have cleared that a bit...

The first pic is of the radio I have NOW, second pic is the back if it. the XM unit is the lower metal box with the wiring harness on it.

I don't know what year they started but they had separate XM modules for the trucks that came with XM. Also Toyota has a specific part number for the connecting harness too if someone needed it.

    EDIT:

After closer inspection of the pics I stole from fleabay you can see the damaged factory wiring end for the XM antenna lead on that lower left black plug. Just for informational purposes.
