Sounds like they are quoting you MSRP, because that's what salespeople will do and yes, you should be shooting for the $37-38k range. The deal you get will of course depend on the situation (demand, if the dealer needs the sale, rebates, etc). I think if you "order" one, you won't have much leverage. Good luck!

Yeah, I think you should be able to do $37ish including destination. Even for a special order, keep shopping.

Some of the dealers I talked to didn't seem terribly interested in selling a truck that wasn't already on their lot.

The place I went with was allocated two TRD ORs with tech + premium for their July order, and the salesman changed the config on one to exactly what I wanted (pretty much just a different color). Other dealers were telling me that I had to settle for a color I didn't like, if they could find one to sell me, at all. C'mon, try harder!.

That said, you may find that the window for doing a special order has closed. My salesman said that this allocation would be the last special build of the 2018 model year and everything going forward would be a 2019. Which would be fine with me, honestly, but I'd probably end up paying a little more since it's new, etc.

Anyway, here's hoping that there's still a rebate on 2018s when my truck actually shows up. Very curious to see what Toyota will announce on 7/10.

I agree $37ish should be doable. Pretty much every dealer I spoke with was willing to do 8-10% off MSRP, which, coincidentally, was what TrueCar said was a good to excellent deal.

I was going to special order too, but my local dealers had so much inventory I was able to find very close to what I wanted in stock down the street.

Soooo . . . am I to assume they will be announcing the 2019 options, pricing and such on 7/10 or what is happening then??

What I can theoretically get for the $37-38ish price range isn't exactly what I want and I would be settling some. If there is no wiggle on an '18 special order than I'd be willing to wait for the '19 and special order if I'm going to be bent over either way.

It is too late for special orders now, at least that is what my dealership told me. I bought a TRD Sport with premium and tech pkg, along with quite a few accessories 10 days ago. I saved $2,106.00 off of MSRP. My truck was very hard to locate and the dealer drove 800 miles so I thought I got a good deal. I would like to know how you can find out any information on the 2019 Tacoma models. If anybody has any 2019 info let us know please.

No announcements about 2019 options on 7/10, that's just when the "financial" month begins for Toyota dealers, at least in my area. The manufacturer *may* extend the current Oregon / Washington rebate ($1000 off), or they might not. Here's a good link, pertinent part quoted below:

    https://clark.com/cars/truth-about-new-car-incentives-no-one-else-telling/

So 7/10 might mean it's $1000 off for another month. Maybe it'll even go to $1500. Maybe it'll be $0. Supposedly the managers themselves won't know until a conference call that morning. Relevant to me because I have a Tacoma on order now that won't be here 'til August or maybe September... I'm keeping an eye on the rebates and financing offers because I can't "lock in" any offer until my truck exists and we have a purchase agreement.

To make things more interesting, it's a commonly held belief that Toyota "never" has incentives on Tacoma (see also: "they sell themselves", "you'll pay MSRP", etc.). But's it's not true. Sure, you won't get some incredible-sounding deal like $12,000 off a RAM over at the Dodge dealership (their pricing structure & market position is vastly different from Toyota), but you might get a $750 or $1000 limited-time incentive, something small like that.. not including the perennially available incentive programs for veterans / graduates. I've seen plain-old-rebates like this twice in my region during the past year. Others on TW have mentioned the same deals in other regions. So they do happen, they're out there, and $1000 is still a lot of money to me, aka I'll sure as hell take it if I can get it. But there's still a certain amount of "OMG incentives on Tacoma?!!? This will never happen again!" hype that we should probably ignore.

As for 2019, the only solid rumor I've heard is that the Entune head unit will get Apple Car Play. Not enough to make me wait for the next model year to become available, not to mention get to a point where I can negotiate something similar to $37k.

I'm not wild about how the "premium" options are grouped for 2018 either. I could live without leather and heated seats, but I want dual climate control and the sunroof, and kinda liked how the 2017 trucks were offered, better. But I think the trend isn't going to reverse for 2019, if anything "premium" will swallow up a few more features from the standard TRD OR / Sport packages. That's just the direction the whole industry seems to be taking lately.

I got my 2016 offroad for about $42k from servco toyota on Oahu. I recently moved to Elko NV and was shocked that the 2018 tacoma was going for $35k for the same features as my 2016. If I ever move back to the islands and want to buy another truck, I'm definitely flying to the mainland to buy one even though it's a huge hassle.

Well, good news is that it's 7/10 and the "local specials" for Oregon / Washington were extended again: $1000 rebate, 3.9% financing for up to 72 months. New end date is 7/31.

Bad news is that the dealer who'd promised to allocate my truck couldn't get it done, so I can kiss my dream of a factory order 2018 goodbye.

However, I might have some leads... we'll see.

I know you want a specific truck, but you may try Kendall of Eugene. I dealt with Brett and he was great. I got exactly $4k off a 2018 SR5 in December of 2017. The 2018's had just hit the lot that week. I havent checked their inventory so they may not have what you want.

Thanks, I've been meaning to reach out to them. Was talking to a dealer up the road in Corvallis a few weeks ago who gave a good starting quote, but my local guys in Portland eventually got a little below their number. I'll check out Kendall next if my last "leads" fall through.

Sounds like you are doing your homework!

Kendall of Bend also had some solid quotes to start with. I ended up going with Kendall in Eugene though. Closer to home and had more SR5s coming in than Bend.

Lithia of Springfield matched Kendall’s offer, but only for 2017’s at that time. If you want my sales guys contact info (think I still have it in truck) just let me know and I’ll shoot you a PM.

My only negative about Kendall is that they have been zero help with my rear diff howl. They wanted nothing to do with it. But the sales part was great! Ha

The dealers I was talking to said they didn't know that the special orders had closed and that they would check into it and get back to me. So do you know for certain that there is no way to special order a 2018 anymore? Thnx

The dealer I was working with said that early July would be their last factory allocation of 2018s and the factory would be shifting to 2019 production soon. That's all I've heard.
