I would think that after a few failures they will have the company that supplies the fans redesign them to prevent future failures.

Crazy to me that posts in this thread from a year ago talking about these parts being on back order - fast forward to now and they are still on back order.

So mine just broke today. Out completely. Doesn't work on any speed setting. Just the awful noise from behind the glove box. Im at 39k miles and change. Any chance the dealer or toyota will cover this or am i screwed?

Unless you reported it as an issue earlier then I would guess no since you are outside of the warranty.

Yeah, part has been on back order for 2 weeks with no ETA. I’m in a base model Tundra loaner but getting tired of it, would like my Tacoma back. I’ll have to call corporate Monday and find out if there’s anything that can be done to expedite part delivery.

Mine came in 6 days later. No loaner from the dealer I brought it to.

Mine broke on the 4th. Only at a little over 15k so it’s covered at least. Dealer has been great so far but the are about 2000 units on back order according to my advisor. Apparently folks are starting to file the complaints with NHTSA as it is a safety issue. No blower, no defroster. Not sure how long the wait will be.

Copied from another broken blower thread I posted in...........

I just did this a few days ago.... Three screws (bright silver colored) to pull it / drop it from under the glove box and some high strength epoxy to hold it until the replacement gets here. I'm talking glued to the shaft! I'll probably just ride the epoxy and keep the new as a spare if it gives up again.... So far it's holding great with many torture test cycles.

With the three screws out and blower dropped, unplug it and the plastic outer shroud with the wires attached stays with the truck and the motor and fan come out easy for gluing it up. If you do this just have the fan facing down while drying so any epoxy drippings don't go into the motor.

Link for what I used but Advance Auto Parts sells it too.

I would do that if it wasn’t still under warranty. Haven’t even had my Taco for 2 years yet and only 15k on it.

Mine is too but didn't want to wait 2 days to "diagnose" and then who knows how long to get one in. $137 shipped to my door (arriving tomorrow) was worth it to me here in south Texas and I'll have a spare if the epoxy ever lets loose.

This concerns me. The A/C in my 1st Gen is still cranking out freezing air since 2002.......

Most manufacturers will offer goodwill consideration if you’re just outside of warranty, especially if it’s a common issue like this seems to be. You could also bring up the fact that the part is on back order if they give you trouble with it

You may have a blower motor resistor issue if you bang on the blower motor and it starts working. Common 2nd gen issue. Resistor connector is located just to the left of the blower motor connector. Removing the resistor and blowing the dirt off the resistor with a spray can of air often resolved the issue for me on several gen2 tacomas.

See pic below from 2nd gen posting.

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
Mine just went out, not even 10K miles on my '16 but I figured it was going to happen to me like everyone else. Thanks to this forum I knew immediately what it was and just shut off the blower. Looking for parts now from the most expeditious/least expensive source. $193 at Toyota. Seems like quite a lot for a piece of plastic. Yes it's under warranty but the trouble to take it in, drop off, get ride home, wait 2-3 days for them to "diagnose," then a few more to fix, and then figure out a ride back to the place is just too much trouble to be worth getting this done under warranty. While coming up with a new one, I may just use my Clamptite to put a circlage wire tightly around the stem where it broke and use it like that, then as a spare once I get the new part. Pictures, maybe, if I can upload them.

Anyway, realize that you do not need a mystical 5.5mm socket for this. I said it earlier in the thread, but all you need is a 1/4" drive 7/32" socket. I couldn't find my 6 point so used a 12 point and it fits perfectly. So stop all this nonsense about a 5.5mm socket, okay?

So I figured out that the price of the unit included the entire fan/motor assembly. Now that's ridiculous! being required to purchase the entire fan motor/squirrel cage fan as a complete assembly. I do have surplus vehicles, I may just get Toyota to replace this under warranty just out of spite. Bastards!!
I can easily pop the circlage wires off the stem even though they are practically embedded into the plastic, but if it works for a pretty long time until it is more convenient to take it in, then I suppose I will. Really this is simply just wrong on Toyota's part.
Kinda like having to purchase a new cylinder head because you need a new spark plug. For cryin' out loud........

Mine just blew on Sunday, taking it in today. 33k on the clock so I'm just sneaking by on warranty. Hopefully it's not going to take too long, but all this backorder has me worried.

How are they breaking? Is it because fan speed too high at start up?
