Not always that easy. If it was up to me I'd move out of MA in a moment, head south where I can live without a mortgage. My parents are still here, older, and won't hear of moving. They don't want to admit it but they're starting to need help here and there.

My point was that in modern times, California has ALWAYS been an expensive state to live in. Always. People don't move there because of the low taxes. I'd relocate if I felt the way you do. Being pissed off all the time about things you have no control over is not a good way to spend your life.

I've only been to California once... drove from Las Vegas to San Diego last October and, out in the middle of the desert, had to pull over at what appeared to be a toll booth along I-15 and declare that I wasn't carrying fruits or vegetables.

    It was peculiar.

This guy gets it...my point exactly. Plus if you have a great profession/career not just a “job” it’s going to be hard to get paid the same in a state that doesn’t have income tax or sales tax or where everything costs less and cost of living is significantly less. What I get paid here in California might be great, maybe a little better than average, but in another state, it could be a CEOs salary because your corporations are the ones being taxed to cover the states deficit.

That’s where my wife’s family is from. We’re in Burbank. Roads have been redone, but the expansion as only been playing “keep up” not make traffic better. We need a population quota cap, it’s getting too dense. I mean why should it take me 45 minutes for 6 miles when late at night it’s 7 minutes? Thanks God for working from home...I had a 60 mile one way 120 mile round trip commute at the same company that used to take me an hour and ten minutes a decade ago each way, now it’s no less than 2 hours each way. I threw my hands in the air and my company said don’t go, work from home! Hence, I’m still in Cali and doing ok I guess.

If you drive down by El Centro, you have the AG inspections AND the random Border Patrol checkpoints. Don't eat elotes and drive when in Southeastern Cali or you are going to have some serious explaining to do.

In Virginia you have to do an inspection every year ($16 fee), they charge you an annual property tax on your vehicle (each county/city assesses their own rate), and ~$46 for annual registration fee (for a vehicle over 4,000 lbs). In Maryland you do one VERY thorough inspection when you buy a used vehicle (cost is dependent on the labor rate at the auto shop conducting it), registration is $187 for 2 years (for a truck over 3,800 lbs), then you just do an emissions inspection every 2 years ($14 fee) but no annual property tax. For the vehicle inspections they will fail you for pretty much anything (tint, wheels too big, wiper blades, any windshield cracks, not enough pad life left on your brakes, etc.). You are not allowed to register it or buy tags until you show up to the DMV with your passed inspection letter.

They have been doing this since the early 70s that I know of. Several insects and several plant diseases have been successfully kept out of the state. Agriculture is huge in parts of the state.

    Reading all these comments hurts.
For those of you who deal with traffic and work for a small company make a suggestion to the owner to roll your starting time to earlier in the morning, like 5 or 5:30. You have traffic because EVERYONE starts work at same time. Get up before traffic and have breakfast/coffee close to work- show up early and laugh at all the stressed coworkers rushing in lol
