2018 limited. No stumble,no lag,no wild engine revs or transmission shifts. 5700 miles. Yes when it was new I had the flat spots etc, etc. Well now they are nil. Drives the same with etc on or off. Made a difference when I first tried etc when new.Now it seems I have calibrated myself.
When my wife drives it she gets the lag, wild downshifts, rpm surge, etc, etc.
The difference seems to be I have learned how to drive the truck. Much like a manual transmission or a turbo car of old with an on/off throttle feel you could learn to drive it smoothly. It seems I have adapted to the truck making an pedal whatever or tune completely unnecessary. Yes was considering one or both but not anymore. If I had not learned then the pedal thing or tune would definitely be added for a more enjoyable driving experience.
Again when my wife drives it which is rarely it reminds me of how it used to feel when I drove it. Yep it is exasperating for her as it was for me

Noticed the same. The shifting never bothered me much as my other vehicle prior was just as shift happy, but would not upshift. Once I adjusted to the accelerator pedal things have really changed. Of course now when I go back to my wife’s Subaru I have to relearn it. I had a gen 1 taco a long time ago and I have to say I like the new one much better

The wild shifting and gear hunting is way worse with cruise set. The truck doesn't know how to drive itself unfortunately.

I agree with you on that. Cruise control is horrible. Just sits in 4th.

I also thought about the OVTune but don't seem a need for it once you learn and the truck learns how to work well together.

'16 that I got used, about 4,000 miles of me driving and im still getting some stumbling from time to time, mostly when crusing off-throttle then getting back on it. It seems to take too long to decide when to downshift.

I've been wondering though, since I got it used, if it might be worthwhile to disconnect the battery for a few hours to reset the ECT controls...

You guys get the transmission TSB update? Fixes the 4th gear cc hang up quite a bit.

i find with this tranny, cruise is not only horrible, it kills your fuel economy in hilly terrain ( which is typical in New Brunswick). thinking a HUD would be a nice addition so i can maintain a more consistent speed

Didn't know there was one. I'll look into it. Thanks.

The drivers seat senses weight then tells the ECU it’s your wife driving. It’s toyotas way of saying keep your woman in the passenger seat...no wait I’m sorry I shouldn’t have said that, I think that’s only my truck. I’m lucky I have a short wife and a truck seat that doesn’t have height adjustment. Even if she wanted to, she couldn’t drive it. My other car is a manual, she can’t drive that either. God has blessed me indeed.

I have a 17 that I bought in November. Took it in last month for service and requested a check regarding the TSB. Tech listed on paperwork a check of the ecu shows the truck already has the software update.
