Pedals: I started out on flats, switched to clipless and now I don't think I could ever go back to flats. I just feel more efficient pedaling and I like feeling "one" with the bike. Plus, I suck at bunny hopping without being clipped in.

Fatbikes: I don't see them too often out here. They look like fun. I wouldn't mind one as a second or third bike for fun, but I don't see one ever becoming my primary bike. They look inefficient though and at 230lbs, I need everything to be as efficient as possible to make it up the climbs. With that said, I haven't ever tried to pedal one up a climb.

my sarcasm was not sensed. I will not ride my DH bike uphill and certainly won't ride it on XC trails, that's what the patrol is for :)

Takes a bit to get used to,but most of the time I forget I'm riding a fat bike until some gives you a strange look.

I sucked, still suck, at bunny hopping with flats. Clipless for me.

Maybe I’m part of the cliche fat bike fad, but my single bike stable these days consists of a hard tail 29+ and it’s the tits

Here is my contribution. It’s been a while since I’ve been riding, but recently decided to dust off and tune up the old haro and rig up a mount in the bed. Now I don’t have any excuses not to go ride.

I had this happen to me the other day. I am in the top 10% of climbers in the Bozeman area (by Strava standards) and he passed me with out breaking a sweat or even breathing hard (huge grin and all) on what I consider I pretty tough rooty and rocky climb category 3 (12% grade climb). I was crushed and thought I just meet superman. Turns out when I saw him on the down he had an electric assist.

The Ripmo, 5.5 and HTLT are all on my shortlist to replace a v2 Bronson. I may check demo the v3 Bronson they just released, but it being limited to the stock shock is a turn off.

:rofl:you gotta watch out for those. I'm sure they're fun. but that defeats the purpose of riding for me.

I recently converted to flats for a change of pace. While they're definitely not as efficient they are certainly more fun and rowdy. For long days in the saddle I throw clips back on but considering this summer I've just ridden DH I have used the flats more often

I used to be puzzeled all the time by seeing someone who would pass me while commuting on my way home from work. They would typically have a decent bag worth of gear on them and yet it looked like they were barely putting in effort. It wasn't till about a year of noticing this I finally researched and realized the electric assist bikes were indeed available.

I have a 160 forked Bronson, and I get that entirely. Definitely a secondary bike, especially with the rigid fork that can be a little jarring. It ate up Thunder Mountain last year though!

Seems fatbikes are in the category of "odd and unusual" along with single speeders (angry or not) and that's OK with me. Makes the company a little more entertaining.

I'm not too old (42), but I switched to flats from clips a couple of years ago. No way I'm going back. Yes, you lose some efficiency (not much though), but the flexibility they provide is incredible.
Plus, it really teaches you better bike handling skills. Clip-ins real mask a lot of bad habits. Just know that when you do ride flats, your shins WILL eventually look like hamburger meat when you slip one into your shins.

Rock that! Shit, Keystone beats me up every damn time. Even on the DH rig, I'm hurting. Some super tech riding up there, and the video highlights that, but does nothing to show how scary some of it really is.

I've got to say I demoed one at NembaFest in VT and I had way more fun than expected on a fat bike. I rode a Growler, can't remember the model, with only front suspension; the only thing I wish it had was a dropper on it cause I felt that limited the extent of movement of the bike under me. I couldn't believe how well it handled basically anything that was thrown at it; after the ride I was just left thinking "Dammit, you just costed yourself a pretty penny in the future". Fat bike is definitely getting added to the stable; definitely helps that there is snow & beaches not too far away.

I am one of those guys who still rocks the knee/shin guards for that exact purpose along with some others. About three years back I was chasing one of the speedy groms down a rock section at snowshoe and as I was gaining on him, all of a sudden a golf ball sized rock got kicked up from him and went right into my right shin. I almost lost the bike simply because of that sudden pain. Swelled up just like a golf ball and I said I would never roll "naked" again after that.

Pic from this past weekend of my road bike n truck out at the beach. Have been looking for the past couple of months for a new starter MTB (to replace a 15 year old mtb I've had since college). Browsing thru all these posts I have seen so many great looking bikes and have learned a lot about mtbs. I did not realize there was so much to know about mtbs and how pricey they can be. Just hope I'm able to decide on a new bike soon.

The locking mech on the 1up is AMAZING. It is rock solid. Theft is going to be difficult because you need a special hex wrench to unlock the locking mech. To further secure the rack, you can get a lock from 1up to block the hex key socket (see attached picture). I’ve had mine attached to the truck for a good month now and it’s been solid. It doesn’t wobble or is anywhere close to slipping off the hitch.

Yes exactly, have to say they are a blast! I just swapped over the tires to a 27.5x3 for the summer and the grins just keep on growing! Pretty sure a mastodon is in the future to soak up some of the bumps, hesitant though cause I don't want to mess with the geo too much
