So the taco noise saga continues.
So got the ok to do the needle bearing in the front diff.
    190,000 miles.
Yeup this is going to be fun.
So trying to pull the bearing out and the tool explodes.
Sending puller pieces into the diff
    Great.
Both fill and drain plugs seized.
    More great.
So look inside and the bearing cage has exploded
    Even more great.
    So no tool
No way to get in the diff.
So a few tricks and I get the diff plugs out.
Partial flush and start pulling the cage and counting needle bearing.
So by working the cage and magnet I'm able to count and recover all the needle bearings
    And puller parts.
So now to get the cage housing off.
By using really worn cutting wheels I was able to slice a slot in the housing on the inside to relieve pressure and remove the rest of the bearing.

Flush the diff and install new bearing.

    Road test and it's quiet.

Stuff like this the cust will never know but I saved him over 3000 dollars.
Self satisfaction is the only thing that keeps me going and I'm losing the ability to
    have that mean anything also.

Im sure he will bitch about something about the job..

Got back from dermatologist. He did 3 biopsies, one on chest, 2 on top of head. He did tell me I had a nice farmer tan.

Just to let people know to get things checked out before they get serious.

I am duly impressed! Good job! Some nights I save the hospital more money than they’ll ever know. My manager manages to never be impressed! Oh well the pay is good and I can pretty much get as much time off as I want (almost).

Somewhere in Illinois. Headed south over 130 miles and quick math says the Taco is getting 13.5 MPG

Ummm Tundra got just under 10 MPG

Mike it’s to bad you couldn’t supply photos of all the important steps that were taken to do a Unique job like this one. I bet the customer would then better understand what goes on behind the scenes, and would appreciate the patience’s and your skill set that’s involved in a repair such as this one. Kudos for doing a professional and proper job :hattip:
