I haven’t but they do sell air fresheners you lay on them so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

No I was being serious but it only lasts about a week or two. It gets tiring smelling sweet aromas all of the time. I use a charcoal filter with baking soda so it scrubs the outside odors pretty well when I'm not adding stuff.

and to be clear that smell is unlikely just your filter... these systems don't drain well. helps if you suck in fresh air while the A/C is on when you can but still a LOT of condensation tends to build up. for example, the last couple of SUVs I owned it took YEARS before the HVAC started to smell musky but only took a few months on the Taco.

I tried a few different methods to clean the system but nothing really "worked" it just covered up the smell with something that smelled clean and chemical-like...

This was my recent attempt and a month later it's still smelling good. Really important to be able to foam up the condenser coils with a good cleaner to actually KILL the bacteria and mold growing on there. Cheap as it is I'll do this a few times in the warmer months from now on... Some will say, just run hot air through the system for a few minutes before shutting the truck down. Screw that on a 95 degree humid day...

thanks again for this recommendation. probably the only thing I'll use from now on. had a reusable K&N but even with regular cleaning and "refreshing" it still didn't seem to "clean" the incoming air and I'd get some mucky smells through there. I smell.... nothing with this filter so far. Thanks again!

I have the K&N cabin filter and works just fine when I clean it and I clean the ac evaporator with Klima Cleaner by Nextzett.

Yeah, it wasn't bad at all and I thoroughly cleaned it regularly but for me personally the charcoal is the ticket! I also use the full Subaru kit and it works wonders as well!

I have put a laundry dryer sheet in there on top. Only lasts a week or two, but does work great.

I may have to give the charcoal filter a try in the fall during my next cleaning. Always open to new ideas
