Best all terrain tire

maybe a side questions, but what have people experienced in terms of fitting certain size tires onto a stock 14 tacoma OR? I am looking into replacing my tires and want to go a size perhaps to 33's, but how does the clearance for rubbing/turning/cutting go? any tips? considering 265/75r16 or 285/75/16

 

If you want 33’s on stock wheels, why not go 255/85/16? Those will have less clearance issues compared to 285’s.

 

Ok been going through all sorts of threads on tires. My ‘10 double cab prerunner still has the original tires on it but they are starting to dry rot. Yes I want an aggressive tire but honestly I live in FL and other than the occasional dirt road the only real off road driving I do is on the beach.

So looking for 80% highway 20% sand and dirt tire. Florida so just rain and hot weather, no snow. Somewhat aggressive looking but I’m really on the highway mostly.

Thinking about Cooper Discoverer A/T3 ? And sizing 265 70R17 for the 17” sport model wheel?

Bummed the OEM are dry rotting. Yes my truck is a part time vehicle as I just hit 48k.

 

I’m really happy with my cooper at3 4s version but can’t say how they’d do in sand. On road and rain are excellent

 

That is an excellent choice... I would have gone that route if my truck wasn't lifted. I went with ST Maxx 255/85/16 and I am very happy with them, but they are VERY heavy...

Another option i recommend is the Toyo Open Country AT2 in C range. super light tire and it is an All terrain tire.

 

Regarding the AT3 4S - I can't speak to the sand performance but I'd think they would do well given their dirt and gravel performance this far. They may be the best wet pavement tires I've ever owned and are relatively light for the performance you get.

Awesome this is a great review and think what I’m looking for. Will check with them when I get home next week as I see the tires have a rebate til the end of the month.

 

Do not get big km. They are cheap and easy to find. Because people swap them off their Rubicon. But they are terrible in the rain. Barely stops. And there was an oil slick on the road and I would sit at green lights not moving.

I see here a lot of guys are loving the Cooper ST Maxx but they are very heavy tires... I was leaning towards the Cooper AT3 LT.. my 1st set of Cooper tires.. any thoughts?

 

I had EXACT same issues with 265/75r16 Duratracs. Never again.

BFG KO2 is a tough act to beat. We'll be doing a 2400 miler, a 1900 miler, and a 2800 mile road trip this summer and fall. I elected to park my 285/75r16 Cooper STT PRO's for the time being because of a few reasons. Noise being primary. Then wear and MPG's. The STT's may go back on some day, but in 48 hours, I've fell in love with the road manners of the BFG KO2's. It's like driving a new truck again!

 

I just got these 265/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler Authority's at Walmart for $149.99 ea. This is my second set. I ran them on a 4x4 Ranger a few years ago. They are civil on the road and capable off road.

 

Really good tire! The C load sidewall is pretty thin just like the Duratracs, but the E load is a great tire.

 

I’m about to order some new tires now that I upgraded my suspension, I’m upgrading to 285/70/17. I was just looking for some input on the best all around tires. Mud, road, sand all of it, I travel a lot to a lot of different areas so I need a pretty versatile tire. I’ve been looking at BFG A/T’s, Nitto Grapplers, Coopers and I just can’t decide. What do y’all think?

 

I personally have had bad luck with both sets of Coopers I've had, traction was terrible on the A/Ts and balancing just flat out didn't happen with the STTs I had. I went back to Toyo and Nitto for truck tires.

Only a little considering there not even the size I said I was looking for haha. But I’m looking for something with a little bit more of an aggressive sidewall.
