Let's talk RV Park Wifi! (also, my first post!)

After doing research into the most optimal solutions for travel trailer wireless Internet inside the trailer, I found a combination of devices from Ubiquiti that works a treat. I've been running this setup for a couple of years and it has been flawless. Unfortunately, the PicoStation I used has been deprecated in favor of the Nanostation, but they're both good devices.

    - Ubiquiti Nanostation M2 - ASIN B00HXT8FFI - $48.22
    - Ubiquiti AirGateway - ASIN B00HXT84DG - $34.23
    - Ubiquiti Suction Mount - ASIN B004EHUR8U - $18.10

Essentially what it does is it acts as a client (the Nanostation) and creates a private wireless network for your devices (the airGateway). Since most parks use a captive portal, instead of having to authorize each device, you only need to authorize the Nanostation and every device in your camper is automatically connected. Also, because the airGateway is inside your camper, you get a good solid signal (there's a high power version of the airGateway too for those of you with those huge trailers. :D ).

For the technically minded: The Nanostation is a wireless client and the AirGateway is a NAT router with its own WAP built-in. Essentially, you're NATing inbound the RV park's wifi.

If there's interest, I can build a howto on how to configure them, but it might be a bit considering they're in the camper and I'd have to bring them home to get screenshots.

Haven't a clue about any of this but for several yrs I used a Verizon USB hot spot internet device and was really pleased with it. It's not cheap though.as far as service goes.

Sounds reasonable enough. The issue is how most RV parks run wifi.. Many of them will get a Netgear/Linksys home router or just use the router/modem their internet provider give them to run possibly hundreds of devices. This is not good, home networking is for homes.. Even some of the business solutions aren't geared for what they are actually used for. RV parks aren't charging you for internet so they go cheap, cheap is slow, and have 100s of people waiting to go through one or 2 doors..

current towing needs don't require it, @ 275k and current usage, i just don't need them.

I've had the truck 3 years now, still just shy of 20k miles that I have put on it.

If it were used more or had less miles and newer i'd probably spring for the ProViews

Triple rate coils are either a gimmick or going to be an improvement over stock. Hopefully it’s the latter cause as she sit, she drives like a dump truck lol
