On the subject of awnings, I'm curious if anyone else has been looking at/for 180 degree swing-out awnings as an option that could provide coverage from the front of the cab to the deployed overhang.

So far the only options I've been able to find are CleverShade and Darche, which I find somewhat surprising given that everyone and their mother now sells 270 degree awnings. Not a lot of information about either option seems to be available.

 

I did it myself with a buddy and a forklift. It could be done with a bunch of guys or an overhead pulley or lifting system potentially, just more time and effort. If lifting from the lid or roof rack for removal of the habitat, throw a ratchet strap all the way around the forward portion of the lid. The black rubber toggle hold downs aren't rated to lift the weight of the habitat.

 

When I added 2 100 watt solar panels, it became a lot heavier to open. I'm thinking of heavier duty struts or hitting the gym. LOL. I'm getting used to it though. Keep in mind it also depends on where the weight is mounted. I mounted the solar panels towards the front of the lid, which put them more or less mostly in front of where the pole attaches for flipping. Needless to say, it would be easier to flip if they were more towards the hinge, or If there was another point to attach the pole that was more towards the fron of the truck (purely for flipping purposes). This may be a good option for folks installing an awning.

 

I like the idea of a mounted awning, but the AT Nemo Awning really makes sense for me. I just don't use their mounting system. I just daisy chain it from anywhere along my roof rack or anything I can tie it to. As much as I like the idea of the 270 off the back of the lid or a 180 off the side, I don't normally need that much awning space.

On a side note, if you want to cut down on the dirt and such entering the habitat, I highly recommend these

mats. I saw Mario using them at Expo East and fell in love. The 6x6 small is perfect for my needs.

 

We have been using the CGear mats for about 3 years now and they are awesome. They work great in everything from wet and muddy to sandy. Definitely recommend them.

So my truck is a trial area for different types of sealants and such, but this one, I'm pretty excited for. I used

$20 GSSI Sealants Butyl Tape 1/8" x 1" x 50' Black

Butyl seal tape on my truck bed for installation of Ltrack for mounting the comboslide. Most other things have been 4-5 different silicones, but I like some of the advantages of butyl tape. What has everyone tried?

 

I used closed cell neoprene tape for the seals on my l track... has been 100% leak free, and the best part there is no sticky mess.

 

Thinking about ordering a couple of these for closing up the tent

That is the Prinsu Design Studios rack. It was cut down to insure there was enough space for the Habitat.
