We did a lot of stopping and looking. Plus we road out to Zeus and Moses. 4 hours maybe

I've been traveling out to Utah from Alabama every year for the past 10. White rim is one of the most Epic views I've ever seen next to the GC.

And like I said 99.5% can be driven in 2 wheel drive. Murphys, Lathrop and Hardscrabble have a few climbs that require 4x4

I just drove Shafer trail earlier this week and became interested in White Rim. What is the permit process like?

You have to call for permit 4 months prior to day you want to hit the Trail. Or you can just show up and see if they have any day permits. We met a couple of vehicles that had day only permit.

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. I rode the White Rim Trail last April on a KTM 350 and had a great experience. I would like to do what you did and camp. We stayed in town and did it in one long day.

I think that's the right size bike to do it on. We passed guys on big loaded down BMWs and KTMs, I dont know how they handled those behemoths on Hardscrabble and Murphys. I'd hate to do it on my KLR and I'm a pretty advanced rider. The whole trip I was like, "man I could rip this place on a light moto"

We were a group of 3 riders. KTM 500 EXC (enduro racer out of New Mexico), DRZ 400 (very experienced dirt bike and mountain bike rider), and myself (former street rider, then DR 650, now KTM 350 xcfw - slowest/least experience). Still had a blast but I was the only one to run out of gas 6 miles outside of town. I have a 3.1 gallon aftermarket tank and made it 157 miles. I want to buy a Tacoma and set up a base camp, then explore trails on the dirt bike and hike around. I think that would be a “best of both worlds” for me. I also think it would be pretty tiring to pick up a big heavy dual sport bike that’s loaded with camping gear, I crashed several times and it was easier picking up the 350 than my DR 650.

Tried to do it last year. Was closed for 4 days all summer. I was there those days. Damnit all.

great place, we did it on our way back from expo....and yes you will need to reserve permits in advance if any big events are in the area, otherwise same day permits are pretty common. Some of the climbs are narrow and is a bitch to squeeze by if there is traffic

I'll be there in Sept! Can't wait to see some of the scenery of the trail! What's the best site to reserve an overnight permit at close by or on the trail? Traveling from KY So trying to plan accordingly. Looks like there's a few different spots on the White Rim Web site to get a permit at.
