What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

i just replaced both my front cv axles and now my tires have a slight angle to to them. looks like they need to be balanced. just curious if thats normals for them to angle outward in just a bit after replacing something like that or did i mess my alignment up?

 

Gotta say, that’s the first time I’ve heard that. Haha.

i just did both of mine last night as well. you have any issues with your tires bowing out a bit. i just bought the vehicle about a month ago and maybe since the cv joint was pretty blown this could account for it and it possibly needed to be balanced and aligned for awhile.. im not sure.

 

Hard to see I guess but you can tell slightly. They tilt outward into the axle I’m guessing alignment and or balance is needed

 

That's weird....I've replaced CVs and it never messed with my alignment. Maybe I got lucky but I'm not really sure how it could...

 

im guessing either that the vehicle had been sitting for awhile with broken cv and and needed to be balanced again or that my wheel bearing might be going out as i noticed there was a slight shake to it.

 

Some much better pics of the bumper. I had to drill out the factory holes that bolt in on the sides and didn’t think it through enough to realize I’ll only be able to get one of the two bolts in on the either side.

 

My all pro bolted up no problem with all the bolts. Why didn’t yours work?

The two bolts that are on the sides that hold the factory bumper in place were stripped to hell so I had to drill them out and use a larger bolt and nut, I tried to tap them but the tap wasn't biting and there wasn't much room to work.

Everything lines up perfectly, it's my fault I can't get the nut on the backside because it's almost completely boxed in back there. I may be able to get a longer bolt which might help give me a bit of room to slip the nut on the back side, my fear with doing that is ever taking the bumper off though.

 

Ah yea, I think that's most of us lol. I don't want to remove my bumper cause it's back breaking heavy.

 

Dont you have a arb too, that’s probably stupidly heavy compared to that all pro

 

I guess it would be possible to notch the factory radiator bushing mount to gain some clearance for a wrench back there

 

I always thought that the ARB was ridiculously heavy but another member that just got one told me it's 'only' 95lbs, which really isn't all that bad for a plate bumper that size. I had expected it to be a lot more.

Of course we're talking about of 95lbs of awkwardly shaped steel which doesn't help matters much...add a winch to that and it's definitely not going to be a one person job to handle anymore.

 

yea felt fine, just has that positive camber on the angles of the tires. i just took it to get it aligned.

 

Usually I am not a fan of the all pro front, but goddamn is it sexy on 95-97's. That looks great dude.

 

yes I do, and with my lights and 10,000 pound winch. It's stupid heavy. I held it up by myself while my dad who's part sloth put in the bolts. Advil and ice pack was my best friend for 3 days after that.

 

Did you use the all the factory bolts on yours? It seems like the ones that would be used to hold the factory tow hook on would be way to long if you don't reuse the tow hook. Did you reuse the tow hook? Sorry for the spew of questions, just kinda popped up in my head.

I didn’t reuse my tow hook. But all the bolts fit just fine. Minus the ones that go into the front of my bumper the head was smaller then the hole on the bumper so i had to find some washers to make it work.
