Problem with installing extra D-Rings in the Bed

I installed 4 extra d-rings in the bed last weekend. I have been going back and fourth about this all week. I took out the 4 bed bolts I wanted to install d-rings on. I put anti-seize on the threads and started to put the bolts with d-rings back into the holes.

The last bolt in the front of the bed on the drivers side came out just like the others but when I went to screw it back in it was a problem. It was really tight to screw back in. I had to use some strength to put it back in, more than I had to to loosen up the bolt from the bed.

Anyone know what happened? Did the threads not match up and I riuned them by forcing the bolt back in? I asked a friend who might know and he said maybe the anti-seize dried up too quick and it made it tougher for me to screw the bolt in.

I put the d-rings in because I plan on carrying a motorcyle back there. Will I have any problems with that d-ring?

 

I got it as tight as I could without over doing it. I used a can of compressed air and blew the hole out, so I dont think dedris is the issue. Will it ever loosen up? So as long as I dont remove it I wont have any problems in the future?

 

Personally, I would be OCD about that and have to remove it, chase it with a thread repair tap, and probably replace the bolt.

But as others said, if you got it tight, you can probably leave it more or less forever.

 

Did you take all four bolts out at the same time or remove and replace one at at time? If you took them all out at once the bed may have shifted a little and the bed bolt hole didn't exactly line up with the hole in the frame.

 

My thought to...Just DON'T take it out and try to put it back, you likely never get it tight

 

I removed and replaced them one at a time. I also did not touch the 2 bolts near the tailgate in the back of the bed. I just dont want a cheap mode to cause me some major problem in the future.

Thats all I have been thinking about for the past week. I waited to read some of the responses on here to see if I needed to fix it or leave it.

 

Check my buildpage. I did this mod on all six bolts. I had no issues with the bed shifting. I did this on a flat service and noticed before I removed them that there was no pressure on the bolt itself.

 

Once I got the bolt almost in, it kinda seemed like it loosened a bit at the end. Its just the first few inches were kinda tough and thats what i have been worried about. I have been checking it daily and seems to be staying tight.

I ran a piece of rope through the d-ring and gave it a pull. Their was no play in the d-ring. I will continue to check it daily and after a few more days if it hasn't loosened up I will stop worrying about it.

 

FYI: $12 for a new bolt. Yes, I know from experience.
