2nd gen headlight eyelids?

I've been seeing pictures of some Tacomas with mean looking headlight eyelids. I don't want just any style though, I want it specifically to match the lines of the grille on an 08 (I'll include a couple pictures for reference). However, the only things I can find are vinyl decals and unpainted fiberglass eyelids. I'm not gonna go cheap and put a shitty decal on my brand new halo lights, and I heard when you paint the fiberglass eyelids the paint wears off after a year of driving. Is there anyone that sells these kind of eyelids that are color matched to my truck and NOT a vinyl sticker?

 

I have a set of the "non-angry" eyelids on mine. Think they are still available from ebay, but unpainted. There used to be a person on here selling painted eyelids, but I think he stopped doing that. Mine were from ebay and were painted by a local body shop about 3 years ago. They still look good, and I have applied them on 3 different sets of headlights.

 

I HAVE THE SAME ONES THE WHITE TRUCK HAS , COOL LOOKING AT NIGHT BUT THERE MADE BY SPEC-D AND IM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE STOCK BULBS MELTING THE LENSES ON HI BEAM

 

I looked at ebay and they were about $50...decided to grab a can of plasti-dip and do them the same style that the red truck has. Of course I have a black truck so it matches well enough. Plus I can just peel it off if I want to

 

The T-Rex ones look pretty cool!

 

Bought mine (Pictured below) from person referenced above.
He has stopped selling them, but will still paint them according to his thread.
Info's in his 1st post, worth a look. His paint job was perfect.
Mine have been on over two years with nary a chip or flake.

Thanks for the information everyone. So it seems that if I want em, I would have to paint them myself. If I do end up doing this, are there any recommendations for how paint them/ what kind of paint to use?

Spot on color matching and fairly quick delivery.

 

How many coats should I do? And should I put on some kind of clear coat/protectant as well?

 

Sand it, 2-3 coats primer, at least 3 coats paint, and 3-4 coats of clear coat.

I'd definitely do the clear coat to make it match, or else it'll look dull. Plus since the eyelids are on the front of the truck the clear coat will help them hold up to the abuse.

With eyelids - eyelashes are a must.

Well. Not to be a dick, but I'm glad I found this thread. I wanted something like this but now I don't..... it only really looked good on the red one

 

How well did the plastidip work?

 

Looking for a set of non aggressive eyelids. My headlights where replaced like 3 years ago under warranty and now they are getting dull on the top area. I guess that Eyelids will solve this problem

 

I think one of the first posts gives you a link to the eBay seller that has those eyelid pieces of fiberglass you're looking for. Very simple or non aggressive. I bought a set and am going to paint them to match the vehicle color. Essentially the number of coats stated above.

 

Yeah, link doesn’t work. I saw some on eBay but I’m concern about the way they fit.
