That's rough. Rhode Island was rough and sales taxes you every year on the value of it.. But now in Oklahoma I've got a cool $90 annually if I don't get my military form signed :oldglory:

I leave for work at 4:30am, many of the lights I go through are on a sensor so I don't sit. Occasionally they will switch and be on a timer for a couple weeks randomly. It is infuriating when you are used to a light turning green as you roll up to have to sit and wait while there is no one else around.

Back in the day in Arizona, you didn't keep the plates when you sold or traded in a car. They stayed with the car. Now, at least you can get a credit or refund from the unused portion.

In OK, at least when I grew up there, the plate became part of the car. It follows thew car to any new owner. If you got a vanity plate the regular plate was supposed to be kept in the vehicle. I do not recall ever getting a refund after sale or even when a vehicle was totaled, but it has been a couple decades.

Here in FL, the plate is linked to the owner not the vehicle. If you sell the vehicle you keep the plate. You can turn it in if you are not going to use it and the number will stay on file as owned by you. This can be a very good thing when you purchase a new vehicle, they issue a shiny new one with the same number you had previously unless you decide to get a new number. That policy is convenient, unless of course, you purchase a new vehicle and forget you have a plate on hold. Then you get to pay the impact fees and such. I learned this when I changed the wife and I to vanity plates. The DMV had 4 plates in our name rather than 3, fortunately I noticed this AFTER the transaction was complete so the county and state both got a bit of extra revenue.o_O Vanity plates, incidentally, completely replace the number plate in FL.

And shit, there is all that water that gets sucked out of the lakes by similar trucks, some with permits and some without.

Not a PRO. Our excise tax the first year is something like 24.50 per thousand and goes down the next 4 years. Stupid expensive!

I would say you'all should move to GA but to be honest, really don't want any more northern bad ideas screwing up this state. Went to the DMV office yesterday and got my renewal for 2019 for free. Well, I guess I paid for it for with six years of service in the US Army from 1969-75 but that was another time.

I may have to use that line. My similar one is "the camera doesn't lie, but it can be made to lie"

Well, moved out of CT in 1990 to FLA and then GA. Have nothing but good things to say about either state. People are friendly and always thank you for your military service when they find out you are a vet. Certainly love the weather and scenery here but do get an occasional snow fall in winter. Watched CT deteriorate over the years and will never go back, not even in a box.

Massachusetts but I hate winter and the nonsense here. Plus the cost of living.

Never lived in CT but I go a few times a year for concerts or Foxwoods..and once to buy an old bike, but I see it in MA and can see the parallels.

    Too few to list.
Ah, my $502 was just "normal" then for my 2015. Highest I've seen it. Not only that CA has high registration fees, they stick us with an automatic $80 weight fee and issue us commercial plates on all trucks regardless of commercial or personal use. Only way to get away without the $80 fee is to install a camper shell and mount it "permanently" so they can assign you a regular plates.

I could handle this way better. Get hit with excise tax once then just pay a small fee to renew the registration. Instead you get taxed on something you already payed tax on every year, and even penalized because you bought a vehicle that holds its value.

Here in Maine I see a lot of Florida registrations from what appear to be year round Maine residents, I figured it was just a cheap place to register.
