What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

do both wheels spin the same direction?
versus one wheel spin forward and the other spin backwards?

 

One wheel is on the ground so I can’t spin it. The other one spins freely.

 

Sounds like it's not engaged.

Might be less aggravation to let that one go... unless you have PB Blaster

 

It should not matter if it is engaged or not. It has a gasket and an o-ring sealing it, tap on it with something to break it loose.

 

Give the casing some hammer smacks sometimes they seize into the bore

 

I think it’s engaged. They spray painted the axle orange and the wheels are still on it.

 

It should come out either way, only thing on the end of the locker shaft is a gear, nothing holding it in besides the bolts

I gave up, it’s not moving at all. Smacked the hell out of it. I did get the locker button though.

Captured this yesterday, not a huge milestone but maybe it will bring some luck. All these posts about timing belts might make me pursue that before 90K.

 

Same here. I have about 10k less miles than you but yours is older by a couple years. Timing belts get compromised by age just as they do by mileage. I'll be doing mine when summer is over and the weather is better.

 

That motor in working condition is worth 1.5 assembled horn kits

 

Maybe I’ll go back for it. The whole tires being in the way make it difficult.

I would get that locker too, most likely 4.3 gear ratio. Is the front diff still in it?

 

I can’t get the locker. Wheels are seized on it so I can’t pull the axle shafts.

I don’t recall what ratio it was. I left in a hurry because someone threw up all over the dash when it got in an accident.

 

wheels are stuck? don't have to remove wheels to slide axles out.

 

you can pull the axle shaft with wheels on, just undo the bolts holding the brake backing plate garbage to the axle housing
