    I've not had any troubles per se. But I like to do the regular maintenance charge with the smart charger to be proactive about it. How are you able to measure percentage of charge?

    I've thought about solar but have never felt the investment was necessary, at least not yet. I suppose if the truck were to set for more than overnight without being charged by the alt, a 100 watt panel would be nice to have.

    The panels are not that expensive and depending on the load you have 50w may be enough to keep the battery topped off. I just used the 100w setup because I already had them for remote operations with the ham radios.

    Yeah I've used that site alot to set up my rig. I used to have a IC-7100 installed but I think I'll use it for the QTH. The head unit was to big for mobile thats why I tracked down an IC-7000 to install. I'm going to try and get a HF igate setup and try to do some HF APRS. I already have a PACTOR modem so I can do HF email. Really amazing the things that can be done with Ham Radio. :D A KX2 or KX3 will probably be my next setup for backpacking.

    That is interesting. I bet they are putting a resistor in the battery voltage sense circuit to fool the system into thinking it needs to put out more voltage. The only problem I see with this is that over a long period of time it may not be able to go into a float charge state and may end up cooking your battery. If the voltage never goes below 14.6 it would probably do that. A typical AGM deep cycle after fully charging would be happier floating around 13.8. But I didn't look at the whole thread so maybe they have addressed this.

    Just found your thread. Holy crap! Some great ideas and execution. Nice photos too. Console vault is cool. Looks like a S&W 6906? Great idea for the cb face panel too. I think I'll try to do both. The truck is great but the father/son(s) thing is by far the best. BTW. Does everyone in Wyoming have a trust fund for their truck?
