I found limited info on this issue from a TW search so thought I’d post my experience to help others.

I installed 2.5” Icon non-resi coilovers on my 2018 Gen3 Tacoma. A terrible squeak developed that made my truck sound like a rusty 1960’s pickup. Even tiny movements in the truck, getting in & out, parking garages, and driving at slow speeds would cause the squeak. It was infuriating.

After 2 days at crawl shop, individually loosening, retorqueing and using an automotive stethoscope the culprit turned out the be the top hat bearing.

I ordered a new set of coilovers, this time BP-51. I was hopeful our diagnosis was correct and was pleased that the squeak disappeared with the new BP-51.

I posted my findings on a couple of the FB Tacoma groups and found four others who had recently installed Icon 2.5” coilovers (2 non-resi & 2 resi) all having the same issue. 2 of those with stock UCA’s.

Just posting in case it can help anyone else.

Mine did the same thing when new. A little lubricating oil on the shock shaft quieted them down. Needed to do this a few times after washing the vehicle and eventually it stopped without the need for oil. I think it's just a very tight shaft seal.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve heard that before too. After trying to lube everything and fighting it for 3 months I lost patience & took them off.

I’m sure many don’t have issues. I wasn’t so fortunate
